RECAP:

“You were getting fresh air? Very stupid excuse Veronica.”

            “Fine! I was out of sleeping pills, and I thought I could get some at the pharmacy, but I was going too fast, and the breaks failed.”

            “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to sound so angry, and I just can’t lose you.”

Dad, being the quiet guy he was, just sat there with worried eyes, till he finally spoke.

“Maybe if I had just paid more attention, none of this would have happened. You wouldn’t need sleeping pills; you wouldn’t be sneaking off to the pharmacy. I’m going to take some time off of work, we can all do something,” He smiled slightly.

            “Dad, it’s not your fault, I’m just going through a, err, tough time. It would be nice to hang out soon…

This weekend I’m sleepover over at Jenny’s, but maybe Saturday or Sunday?”

            “Sounds good,” He got up and hugged me, then kissed the top of my head.

            “I’m going to head up to my room and get some rest, I’m exhausted.”

I went to my room and lay down on my bed, and I actually fell asleep.

 Chapter 11

Revealing too much…

My parents dropped me off at Jenny’s house, finally leaving me to be alone for five seconds, even though it’s just outside of her door. They have clung onto me all week, I haven’t even been able to go to see Ian, Lenny or, eh, who wants to see Johnny?

Jenny threw open the door and wrapped her arms around me, her face brighter than I have seen in months.

            “Lisa is here!”She informed me quite loudly.

I smiled and nodded. I followed her up to her very girly room, noticing the new ‘Hot guy’ wall has grown.

“Ah, I see at least three new guy posters,” I said, staring at the poster of a guy with very with very large arms.

“Yup! Lisa got me Chad, I am in love with him, though Brad totally is my second choice,” Jenny kissed the poster.

“Hey Veronica,” Lisa hugged me very awkwardly.

I knew why Lisa was still strange around me. She probably assumes that my mental absence at school lately is because of her. If only she knew it was because of my involvement in The Program. It’s not something I can tell her though.

“Should we watch a movie or play a game…?” Jenny tried to push some excitement into the conversation, but it was useless unless it involved my secret life.

“A game sounds good,” Lisa’s whisper was barely audible.

“Good! A game it is!”

We headed into the Jenny’s hallway and stood awkwardly in front of the closet full of blankets and games.

“There is Monopoly…? Twister…? Life…?” She went on, but neither Lisa nor I answered.

It was just this super awkward moment that I was almost tempted to leap out of a window or something, just to avoid this.

“That’s it; we are so playing truth or dare!” Jenny interrupted my plan.

Truth or dare? I remember playing that, back before things changed drastically. I remembered the giggling when the words boys were mentioned. The entire group prank calling and crazy dares involving ketchup and mustard. Those were the pleasant days when everything was so simple.

“Come on!” Jenny grabbed our arms and towed up into her room again.

She turned on some dance music and we gathered around the room. I lied down on the floor, petting Jenny’s cat, Mimi. Jenny gave us snacks before starting; I just nibbled on them and looked into the Persian cat’s eyes.
