Lila's P.O.V.

"Aaron. Wake up," I said, shaking him.

"Lila, that isn't a good idea. He's still probably shaken up about everything," Allison said.

The whole thing was still very weird to me. The famous Allison was in my not-so-heavenly room. Fifteen minutes ago, Gina and Allison walked in, balancing Aaron in their arms. It all happened so fast. I saw Gina's wings, Aaron looking...dead, the worried look on Gina's face and the pitying look on Allison's.

They laid him on my bed and that's when I exploded with question, worries. Gina had to calm me down and Allison explained everything to me in this really calm way. Maybe it was an angel thing, but I was soothed.

On the outside, at least. On the inside, thoughts bounced around in my head.

"But I still don't understand. If he's, well, dead, why is he unconscious?" I asked, glancing over at him. I shivered. It gave me the creeps.

"Tempters have a way of playing with your mind. They make you feel as if you're alive again. They don't do anything to you physically, you just feel like they do. If I didn't find out what was going on, then they actually would've...well, you understand. Clear him of his purity," Allison explained.

"Steal his soul, you mean." I filled in the blank. "What's going to happen to him now?"

Allison sighed, looking over at him. "He could have to face serious consequences. Falling from his place in Heaven is one possible choice. Losing his job as a Guardian Angel is another."

No. No. No.

Because, yes, Aaron annoyed me sometimes. Yes, he did sometimes tell me what to do. But I couldn't imagine him being taken away from me. He's just become part of my life. The people at my school are awful and cruel, but having him by my side everyday made it worth it. He honestly cared about me, and even though that was his job, there was more behind it.

"You can't do that to me, Allison. My life at school is awful. I'm the laughingstock of my grade! Whenever people do something embarrassing, people always say, 'Oh, and least I'm not Lila Grace!' But, you see, he's changed my life. And you want me to just forget about him?"

Allison looked at me sympathetically. "I'll see what I can do, Lila. There are eleven other people that make this decision besides me."

Aaron started to cough and Gina, Allison, and I all looked over at him at the same time. He was sitting up, looking a bit...disheveled.

"Why are you guys looking at me?" he asked. "What happened?"

Allison glanced at me, then at Aaron. "You don't remember?"

"Very vaguely I do. Care to fill me in?"

"Bull," Gina coughed.

"It's not bull! Why would I lie about that?"

"I bet you want to protect Hayley."

"Hayley? How do you know who Hayley is?" Aaron asked, his eyes showing something that only I saw.

Love. He loved her a lot, with all of his being, but he didn't know the evil on the inside. And when he did find out, he wouldn't be able to see it.

Aaron's P.O.V.

After the whole situation was explained to me, I still hardly believed it.

All I remembered was going to the graveyard and everything else is a blur. I would've remembered seeing Hayley. How could I not?

It was that night that I decided I'd visit the cemetery again. After Lila and Gina were asleep, I'd sneak off. All I had to worry about was Allison. But why would she always be watching me? That's a little creepy.

I opened the window and cringed when Lila rolled over and looked at me. "Where are you going?"

"Just opening the window. You looked warm, I was letting cool air in. It's three in the morning, why are you still awake?"

"I can't."

"You have school tomorrow. Go to sleep."

"Don't you think I would if I could?"

It was an hour later when I was sure she fell asleep. I flew out the window, the cold night air hitting me like a fan.

Back in front of her grave, I shivered. I was cold, but that wasn't the only reason. I felt like there was someone-or something-watching me.

"Grave stalker."

A shadow stepped out from the darkness and showed herself: Hayley.

"Hayley!" I whispered, putting my arms around her. Black wings sprouted from her back, feathery nd dark. I gasped and opened my mouth to ask her what happened

Someone pulled me off of her, their arms wrapped around my waist.

"Aaron, you're an idiot!" someone whispered in my ear. Gina.

"Who are you?" Hayley snapped. She crossed her arms over her chest. "Aaron doesn't need to listen to you, he's sixteen years old."

"So? He doesn't need to listen to you either. You're just a trashy fallen angel," Gina shot back.

"So are you," Hayley responded with a smirk.

"I'm not trashy."

"You're still a fallen angel. You feel all superior because you're one of the Nephilim? That's not much better. You're as bad as everyone else!" Hayley  said, her voice rising. She pushed Gina away from her.

"Whatever. Look, I'm not here to play games. I'm here to get the idiot back home."

Gina flew a few feet in the air. She opened her mouth to say something, but just grabbed me instead.

Hayley screamed a line of curses at her but didn't follow us. Gina stopped flying high in mid-air and so did I.

"We're far enough away. Now let's talk," Gina demanded.

"Yes, I know, I'm an idiot. I just didn't know, okay? Don't yell at me."

Gina sighed.

"Thanks for saving me."

"No problem. Just don't go back again."

"I promise."

There was a minute of silence, with just us listening to the crickets below, the moon shining on us. I looked over at her and leaned in, my lips meeting hers.
