Few hours later, I was doing this stupid math homework that I just feel too smart to do it. As I’m doing my homework, my brother Matt comes in without knocking. “Knocking much?” I told him feeling annoyed. “Hey mom said it’s time for dinner and she wanted me to check on you because you acted differently and it’s not like you act like an ignorant spoiled brat who thinks the world involves around you!” he yelled as he pulls my iPod away from me. “Look who’s talking? I’m not the one who brags about oh the college life, oh how my teachers think I was the chosen one! Now that my bro, I called a spoiled brat!” I told him with anger. “Well at least I don’t act like one like you do everyday for not letting go of the car door!” “Ugh! Just leave! I’m not eating today!” I pushed him out of my room and lock my door, so he wouldn’t bolt in. Godsh he makes me so mad! He always has to win the fight! Well you know what, no one can beat me! No one can control me! I control myself and I am never changing who I am! Ugh! I push all my things off my desk with anger. I’m just so mad with this world! I don’t belong in this family! I don’t belong to anyone! I put on my ear buds and blasted the music, until it’s just me and the song playing. For some reason, even with this music, it’s not really helping me. I don’t think I should do this, but it might do the trick. I went to my nightstand and took out a blade. I sat on the floor and started to cut deep in my wrist. I just feel the rush of blood coming out and it just feels good. I’ve been doing this for years and my mom and brother are too dumb to notice me. I know it’s bad for me to do this, but it relaxes me when I get so angry when I can’t control it. As I finished doing five straight bloody lines all over my arm, I let go the blade and just soak in the pain. As I start to feel dizzy, I got up and lay down on my bed. I closed my eyes and reopened them slowly and starred at my alarm clock as the time strikes 3am. I didn’t even finish my homework, but screw it. I go to detention anyways. The next morning, I got up and got dressed quickly so I could just walk to school. I opened my door quietly and slowly tipped toe down the stairs. I made myself some pancakes, drank my milk quickly and open the door quietly. I started to head to school. As I got there, I ran to my locker and pulled out my first aid kit to clean up my blade marks all over my arm, so that when I see David, he wouldn’t notice. As I cleaned the marks, my English teacher Mr. Jason saw me. He approached me and asked, “Julie, why are you here so early?” Mr. Jason was a young English teacher who would wear slim fit white dressy shirts, black pants, black dressy shoes and short black skinny ties. His hair would always be gelled and the only reason why he looks young is by the short black hair that most guys in this school have and also the color eyes that he had would make many girls flirt around him. All of them found out he was around late twenties and it just makes me sick, he’s a teacher for crying out loud! Anyways besides on how he looks, let’s get back to the question. “Julie?” he said. “Oh, sorry Mr. Jason, um I just came early to finish some homework for some of my classes.” I finally told him. “Well I hope it’s not my homework you haven’t done.” Mr. Jason said. I told him, “Nope, I was able to finish that essay first.” I lied. “Okay, well I’ll see you later.” He said. “Okay” I gave him a fake smile and he walked away. I look at my watch and the clock strikes 7:20. Most people get here around 7:30ish or 7:40, who cares. So I went to the restroom and checked if my arms were less noticeable and the marks seemed to be less. As I came out, the clock strikes 7:30 as David opened the school doors. He wears a dark flannel shirt with a white muscle T-shirt underneath, dark blue jeans, and black and white converse. His hair is gelled like Mr. Jason, except he has his hair up a little just like a little wave at the tip of his hair. His eyes were a light gray, but once the lights hit them, they look more of a light baby blue. He started walking towards me as he does that cute side smile again. I looked down and noticed that my arms were showing so I pulled my shirt down more. “Hey Julie.” David said. “Oh, Hi David.” I couldn’t really say much cause of the fact that he still wants to be friends with me. “So how was your day yesterday?” he asked. I tried not to show my arms as we walk down the halls. “It was okay, I guess. What about you?” I wanted him to do most of the talking. “Mine was alright, just hate doing the homework at home.” He said and I asked him, “And why’s that?” and he just explains about homework being pointless and a waste of time. I wanted to argue back on how dumb he thinks, but then I’ll lose my only friend. So I told him, “Yeah, I know right! Why can’t teachers just give us a break? Like how on winter break they leave us homework due in 3 weeks!” David said, “You so get me! I can write a novel about that! It’s just so pointless!” The whole time as he talks, I thought man this guy is as dumb as a fish! He doesn’t understand that homework is useful for us and winter break work keeps our minds active. I just didn’t want to sound too smart around him. During lunch, I was able to get lunch before David arrived. As I get my lunch, I started to talk with the lunch lady. I don’t know why, but I’m always nice to them more than my mom. “Hi Linda.” I said to the lunch lady. “Hi honey, how is your day so far?” “It could of gone better.” I told her “Well don’t worry too much, just have some patience” She told me. “Thanks Linda and I know, but I’m having trouble with that.” Students started to get upset with me cause I was holding up the line. “You better go Hun, we’ll talk tomorrow.” “Okay thanks Linda.” I grabbed my lunch and sat at an empty table. As I’m eating, David finally comes as he gets his lunch. David started to look for me and so I made hand gestures so he can see me. He smiled and started walking towards me. “Hey, sorry I’m late, my math teacher hold me back for a few minutes.” David said. “It’s okay, no worries.” I said. “Okay, cool. At first I thought you were going to leave me eat alone.” Am I hearing clearly? He did not just say that? I was going to leave him if he didn’t showed up. I thought he finally realized how I am; yet I was wrong again. I’m surprised, why would he say that? David gave me a look for I haven’t answered him back. “Sorry, I was having deep thought about something. Um, why would I leave you? We are friends aren’t we?” David said with his cute side smile on his face, “It’s okay and yes we are.” The annoying school bells started to ring again, I wish it rang a little later after me and David actually had a good conversation, but that conversation was a waste after what happen next. As David got up from behind, he accidently bumps into Amanda Princeton. He turned around and started to apologize to Amanda, but Amanda on the other hand was being all flirty around him. “It’s okay, it was a total accident. I’m Amanda” she sticks out her hand. “I’m David” as he shakes her hands. “Well it was nice bumping into you David, maybe we can talk sometime.” Amanda asked being flirty. “Yeah sure.” David said nervously. As Amanda finishes her conversation with David, she gives me a look that reads, “He’s mine now.” That moment, now I really wish I could of punched her that day when I had the chance. I look back at David, and for a second he looked like he blank out for a while. “David?” I asked. David shook his head and saw the concern face I had on. “Yeah, I’m here. Sorry Julie I didn’t know what just happen. For a moment, we were about to leave, but then everything changed.” David said. I knew that Amanda charmed her way into his heart. David was gone. “I’ll see you later.” I started to walk away before David said anything else. The final bell rings, as I grab my stuff out of my locker, David came up to me. “Hey, why did you walk away from me after lunch? I thought I was going to walk with you to class?” He asked. “Oh, I forgot I was suppose to do something earlier before class started.” I said giving him a fake side smile. “Oh, okay then. Can I walk you home?” For a moment, I didn’t want to deal with David cause I know he’s going to leave me soon for Amanda. She always has to steal everything from me! My social life, my style, my identity and now my only friend! I just can’t stand her! “Sorry David, but not today. I just need to be alone.” David looked at me with concern. “Why? What’s the matter?” he asked sounding worried. “Nothing, I just have a lot in my mind. I don’t like to talk about my feelings. Bye.” I ran out the school doors and ran straight home. As I got home, I noticed that there was a note on the fridge door that read: “Julie, Matt and I went to the hospital to visit your aunt. She is in critical care, so I don’t know what time we will be home. I left your dinner in the fridge and I’ll be home soon. Love, Mom.” I crumpled the note and ate dinner. Later that day, I blasted the entire house with music that everything started to shake. I sat on the floor and looked at my arm with three new bloody marks on my arm. What has the world come? Why does the one person I have going to leave me? I looked around my room and found many pictures of me with my dad. I got up slowly and unpinned a picture of me on my sixth birthday smiling as my dad hugged me tight. I looked so happy being held in his safe arms. As I was looking at the picture closely, I started to have flashbacks of the last time I saw him. Bright lights were facing my dad and I as he drives. The whole car started to lose control and a big crash sounded. There was broken glass everywhere and the car was flipped over. I was only seven when this happen. I remember I was able to open my eyes. I saw my dad dripping a lot of blood from his face and pieces of glass were all over him. The firemen finally showed up and they flashed the flashlight right in front of my face. “Everything is going to be okay, I’m going to help you out.” The firemen were telling me, but I didn’t say anything. They were able to take my dad and my self out of the flipped car. The firemen carried me out towards the ambulance. I started to look for my dad, but there was no sign. Finally, I saw the firemen and policemen surrounding a body on the floor and the paramedics covered the body with a white sheet over it. I was awakening from the flashback by a loud knocking on my front door. I put on a long hoodie to cover my arms as I lowered the music. I ran down the stairs and opened the door. David was standing at my door. “David, what are you doing here?” I asked him. “I wanted to know if you were okay. That’s what friends do and I got worried about you.” I gave him a side smile and he got closer to me and gave me a hug. This is the first hug that anyone has ever given me after that accident. I would never let anyone else hug me, but only my dad. My dad’s arm is where I felt safe. David’s hug made me feel safe again. He let me go and I said to him, “Well come in, since you came all the way to bug me.” I laughed and he did his cute side smile and laughed a little. “Thanks, maybe I could get my homework done with you.” “Yeah, I doubt that.” I said jokingly. We both started laughing and started to do our homework.
