Through the looking glass part 2

3

The week past as time always does, i milled through the evil glares the constant snickers and sometimes physical abuse.
The weekend was fast approaching, it was finaly friday, my fears temporarily slipped away with every step i took through the high school gates. it was a big lavish affair with iron links, making the school look more like a detetion center than a place for learning.

I was eating outside enjoying the afternoon air it healed the mental scars, to deep to see.
I idly glanced in the window and glared at my reflection, what did people see when they looked at me? a frumpy high school nerd hiding behind wild midlength hair, a boring sweater and combats.
I realised that was why he bullied me.
later that day the bell rang signaling the end of class. freedom i sighed wistfully. It was time for a change i was sick of the old boring me.

I raided my wardobe, looking for something...anything suitable to wear. something to transform this ugly duckling into a swan.
I sighed in frustration there was nothing. i possesed nothing of work. just the same sombre parade of tired clothing.

Betty i thought to myself its time for a change.
god even my name sounded boring Betty Day it was the name of country and western singer, it did not belong to this highschool body it did not belong to me.

I walked to the mall, it wasnt far. usually and im not proud to admit this i bought most of my clothes from discount stores, this time however i kept my head high and headed into monique the coolest store in town.

I extracted the list from my jean pocket, the first thing on my list was yikes a skirt!

"um exscuse me" i mumbled patheticaly to the shop assistant. she was dressed in cool designer gear, her golden hair was cut in a fine silk crop emphasisng her sharp angular cheekbones, her pale blue eyes regarded me with curiosity.

"can i help you?" she smirked, head titled to the side she regarded me with a cool demeanor.

"i was wondering if you had any of these?" i indicated to the crumpled list wanting nothing more than to crawl back to my whole.

"a skirt?" she pointed vaguely to the racks of skirts minis, denims, knee lengths, skirts with slits skirts with delicate designs that looked soft to touch. i gulped. rolling her eyes the shop assistant selected one a black mini.

Next on the list was a top, grinning meschivously she handed me skin tight, tank top.

"but i...i.." i stuttered incoherently horror etched into every line of my face.
she pushed me in the general direction of the chasnging room. Whatever happend to the customer is always right saying?
2 hours and several bags later i stumbled out of the shop my hands laden with purchases galore. whoope i thought with a sarcastic roll of my eyes.

Next was a the hairdressers, i past tylers and stared at the glossy cover girls there hair shone like jewels in the sun. Making my way to the counter i booked an appointment and was staring in the mirror desciding what i would do with this nest of hair.
There hair dresser a kindly lady named gloria messed with my hair, mumuring in her soothing britsh accent i closed my eyes and let her work her artist touch upon my hair.
she moulded it before my eyes adding layers feathering the front before finaly adding bangs to my now sleek black hair.
i stared at the stranger in the mirror not quite trusting my eyes. gone was my inner nerd banished forever. now i stared at the cool stranger, before me my midnight blue eyes sparkled with glee.

"now does that pretty face have a pretty name" she said gestruing to my newly defined cheek bones. i looked a porcelain doll, all delicate and dainty.

"be...just call me b" i smiled wickedly exiting the shop.

MOnday arrived, i ingored the flooding butterflys in my stomach and concentrated on breathing, my legs were encased in a black mini skirt coupled with a deep blue tank top and knee length boots buckles at the sides. i looked like a model i thought stunned.
i arrived back at school in my new trendy gear.

Everone stared, i stood idly lingering in the corridor a group of girls included me in there conversation. whislt we talked about boys and the latest gossip, i caught my reflection in the door way before entering class.
Ferguses head snapped up he stared dreamy eyed, dreamining away.
i sat down his eyes still focused on my face. my hair HAD changed the way i looked, for once i looked well pretty.

At break i was expected him to do the usual routine, torturing the outsider.
but instead he just walked over and asked if was ok. for once he was nice.
then i relaised he started fancy me. i smirked with disbelief.

Life as i knew it was gonna change.
