Not having any friends wasn’t as bad as Fallon expected it to be. It was kind of a relief to be free of all the drama. At least that’s what she told herself when she sat alone in the library at lunch time every day. It wasn’t like she was a total hermit. Griffin still drove her to and from school every day and they still talked. She just didn’t hang out with him and his friends at lunch time anymore, which didn’t seem to bother Daphne or Ava at all. They didn’t try to fix things with her. They didn’t even talk to her in the classes they shared with her. Instead, they acted like she didn’t exist anymore. It hurt just a little bit, but Fallon did her best to move on. Every day at lunch she went to the library and did something she hadn’t done since she met Lucian. She did her own school work. Most of it anyway. Math was the one thing she couldn’t bring herself to do, but she gave the rest of it a try. If nothing else, it was a good way to kill time. She’d just started an essay for her English class when someone took a seat across from her. Fallon looked up into the flawless face of Christian Church. For once, the sight of him didn’t make her stomach turn.

“What are you doing here?”

“I came to see you.”

“Why? So you can see how miserable I am without Lucian?”

“You don’t seem miserable. I heard you were going out with Griffin now.”

“That’s a lie.”

“Does that mean you’d go out with me?”

“So you can exorcise me?”

“Is that what you want?”

“I want Lucian back, but we don’t always get what we want.”
Christian gave her a wry smile. “I know that,” he said as he stared into her eyes.

Fallon could feel the light of his goodness forcing its way into her soul. If she wasn’t so full of darkness, it probably would’ve filled her with happiness. Instead, it made her skin crawl.

“That feeling will go away after we go out a few times,” he said.

She couldn’t help laughing. “You make it sound like it’s a done deal.”

“Give me one chance. What could it hurt?”

Just as she started to say something about it killing her, she spotted Ted lurking in the background. He smiled when he realized she’d seen him. Though she didn’t smile back, he still took that as an invitation to come over to her table.

“Hey, Fallon. Where’s Griffin? I thought you two were always together.”

“Where’s Corina? I thought you two were going out.”

“I needed a book for an extra credit English project, and she said couldn’t come to the library with me because it was her mission in life to avoid all things scholastic.”

Fallon smiled. Sometimes she missed hanging out with that girl!

“What book are you here for?” Christian spoke up.

Ted frowned at him. “What?”

“You said you needed a book. I was just wondering what book you were here for.”

“Oh, um, I don’t know yet. I have to pick one.”

“Great, don’t let me keep you,” Fallon suggested.

“Yeah, all right,” Ted gave in easier than Fallon expected. “I’ll see you around.”

“See you,” Christian repeated with his brow pinched.
