I stood there kind of awkwardly. I spotted a swing set over across the yard. I'll just make my way over that way.....away from the awkwardness. I went to the swing and sort of sat there. I swung back and forth a little.
After a minute I felt someone behind me, pushing.
I looked back and Greg smiled at me. I smiled back.
He pushed me a little and I just enjoyed having the wind in my hair.
All of the sudden the swing slowed to a stop. Then I was turned around and a set of lips crashed onto mine. I was still sitting on the swing. His hands came up and wound themselves in my hair on the back of my neck and I was so caught up in the kiss I forgot who I was kissing and kissed him back. The wind blew my hair all around my face and his. My arms found their way around his neck.
He broke the kiss briefly, but our lips were still touching. He chuckled and smiled widely. "So? What'd ya think?" He asked breathlessly.
My eyes were closed, but they shot open at this. I pulled away quickly. I was staring at him with wide eyes
He just smiled. "What's the matter Vi?"
"Um...I....I don't think that should've happened."
"Why not?" His expression looked questioning now.
"I...I just...I..." I was stuttering so much! I just don't know what to say!
"Well you know you enjoyed it because you kissed me back."
"But I...I..." I was still shocked! Wait why did I kiss him back? I don't even know! I'm so confused!
"Admit it! You enjoyed it and you want to kiss me again." I looked up at Greg then I got up ran out from underneath his arm and took off towards the house.
I know it might have been an overreaction, but I'm so confused I just want to get away for a minute to think about it.
I got to the house and got my hand to the door knob when someone grabbed me from behind.
I screamed, turned around and started hitting the person.
"Get away from me! Leave me alone!"
"Ah! Violet stop! Stop it's me!" I stopped and looked up. Kyle.
I don't know why, but a wave of relief washed over me.
Then I saw Greg over Kyle's shoulder and he looked mad. As much as I didn't want to, I wrenched out of Kyle's grasp and ran towards the barn.
I have only been to Greg's house once before and I remembered the barn. I just hope they don't follow me.
I got there. My breathing was ragged.
I sat down in the hay. There were no animals in it right now. They were all in the field.
I pulled my knees to my chest and put my head down.
What should I do? Kyle? Greg?
I've gone over this a million times in my head. Why can't I figure it out? Why is it so difficult?
All of the sudden I felt two arms wrap around me and pull me into a hug.
I recognized the cologne. I got it for him for Christmas! I looked up and my older brother was actually sitting there comforting me!
"Listen I don't know what's going on or why you ran away, but being the kind and loving person I am I'm going to sit here with you until you decide if you wanna tell me or not."
I sighed. He started humming. My eyes widened. When we were younger we would sing and dance together all the time. Like little crazy monkey children. Our favorite one was Hanukah matata. I smiled and started singing it. He sang with me and then we got up and did our little dance we made up. I can't believe we still remember. I was like 8 and he was 9.
Once we finished we sat down and started laughing.
"Wow I can't believe we still know that!" I said.
"Yeah well some things never change. You still can't sing Vi." I hit his shoulder and we both laughed. "Feeling better?"
"Much." I happily sighed this time. I missed messing around with my brother. Ever since he was in high school we never talked or hung out anymore.
"Well I'm glad. I mean that's what I'm here for." I smiled. "So what were you so upset about?"
"Your friends." I said bluntly.
"Kyle and Greg?"
"Yeah."
"What's been happening? I've noticed they've been at each other's throats."
"You really don't know?"
"No. I guess I've been kind of focused on other things." He smiled.
"Oooo like heather?"
"Exactly like heather."
"I need to formally meet her."
"You will, but let's get back on topic. We're talking about you not me. So why are they pissed?"
"Me."
"You?"
"They both told me they liked me, and so it's become sort of a competition."
"And you aren't happy about that? Most girls would love it if two guys fought over them."
"Yeah well not me. It's just ridiculous. And plus it makes it hard on me because I feel pressured to choose one of them."
