Name:
Angus Ecrivain
Age:
29
What is behind your username?
Well Angus is my middle name, and Ecrivain is French for ‘writer’… plus I reckon it’s got a nice ring to it!
About Writing:
When did you start writing?
I’ve been writing lyrics since I was 12 or 13 but I started taking actual writing seriously a little over 3 years ago.
Why did you start writing?
Well in the beginning it was purely out of boredom. I was about halfway through a particularly long night shift when a flash of inspiration hit, and I wrote out of the prologue to Half-Light.
What is your favorite subject to write?
Sci-Fi, without a doubt. I’ve tried my hand at other genres and I’m certain that I will do again, but there’s something about Science Fiction that speaks to me.
What inspires you to write?
I’m not sure that there is anything in particular, it’s just something that I have to do. If I go more than a few days without writing I get extremely irritable. On the odd occasion that I get the dreaded writer’s block I find that listening to music normally does the trick.
What do you like the most about writing?
Getting lost in a story. Finding that my writing has taken me to a place that I never even though of. Allowing my characters to take the lead… to let them tell me the story. I find that when you’re characters do that, once you’ve developed them to the point that they almost have their own consciousness, incredibly fulfilling.
Do you plan on making a career out of writing?
Definitely.
About reading:
What was the first book you’ve read?
I don’t remember exactly but I read from a really young age. Most likely ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’, or something like that.
What was the first inspirational book you’ve read to inspiring you to write?
The first book I read that made me think about writing myself was Sir Terry Pratchett’s Soul Music. Something about that book definitely inspired me and to this day it is one of my all time favorite reads.
What is your favorite type of book to read?
I don’t really have a favorite type. I mean there’s genre’s that I avoid like the plague, such as romance, but I enjoy a lot of different types of book. I generally like to read books that are written in the third person although that being said I’m currently about two-thirds of the way through Killzone: Ascendancy, which is written in the first person.
What was the last book you’ve read?
The last book I actually finished reading was ‘The Bro Code’. Written by Neil Patrick Harris’ character from How I Met Your Mother, Barney Stinson. A short yet very entertaining read. The last ‘proper’ book I read through was Sir Terry Pratchett’s ‘A Hateful of Sky’.
Who is your favorite Author?
Sir Terry Pratchett, without a doubt. There are a few who come close though. Frank Herbert, Simon Guerrier, Tom Knox, Velerion Damarke. The latter is actually a self-published author, and he writes superb Sci-Fi.
What is currently on your to read list: novel & wattpad?
Well the top four in my Wattpad library are TheOrangutan’s ‘Merlin’s Gold’, hachebrown’s ‘Paraplegic Zombie Slayer’, viva_la_vidaxxx’s “The Halfling’, and JamesDSwinney’s ‘Wave Over Wave’, all of which I am thoroughly enjoying. My novel to read list is ‘Unseen Academicals’ – Sir Terry Pratchett, ‘Assassin’s Creed: Renaissance’ – Oliver Bowden, and I’m currently half-way through ‘The Great Dune Trilogy’ – Frank Herbert.
About Music:
What do you listen to when you write?
I can’t write without it, my ipod is full of rock and metal and is always on shuffle. Metallica, Slayer, System of a Down, Pantera, Green Day, Stereophonics, Blink 182, Rush, Saxon, Cannibal Corpse… it’s all good!
What is your favorite music?
Well as you can see from above… anything that’s rock and metal!
What is the most embarrassing song that you still like?
