‘Hey Skye!’ Marissa called out.

She was standing by her car, a blue Volkswagen Beetle. I must say, she looked as pretty as ever. With her honey blonde hair, big aqua-coloured eyes, a small and pointy nose and a model-like figure. She was always getting compliments about her looks but usually brushed it off with a smile. Besides her beauty, she is also a smart-ass. Last year, she topped the class with every subject. If I were her, I would be so proud of myself for being such an all-rounder.

‘Hey Marissa!’ I replied, with a huge grin on my face.

I ran towards her and hugged her tightly. Nothing beats seeing your best friend after the holidays. After a while, she pulled away from the hug and pulled something out of her bag and handed it to me. Beaming at me, she said

‘Here, it’s a little present for you since you were stuck here for the whole holidays. You better use it!’

‘I will!’ I promised.

I hooked my arm into hers and we walked into school together.

The first period was assembly, like every other first day of school. Most of my schoolmates were still the same. After all, the bitches will still be bitches and nerds will still be nerds. I would say, Marissa and I belonged in the middle. Just like normal students, despite the fact that Marissa was so pretty.

We listened to Mr. Jackson, the principal, drone on and on about the school rules and about making this year our best year blahblahblah. I had tuned myself out long ago and I saw that Marissa did the same, though she looked like she was paying attention. After one agonizing hour, Mr. Jackson finally concluded the speech and the entire hall burst out in applause. Obviously, the applause was because it was finally over and not because they enjoyed the speech.

As we walked out of the hall, I saw Kyle approach me from the corner of my eye.

‘Skye! Where were you? I was looking for you!’ Kyle scolded. He put an arm around my shoulders and started to walk to class with us. ‘Oh hey Marissa! Nice to see you back.’ Kyle greeted. He had apparently just spotted her.

‘Oh I was with Marissa the whole time. By the way, what’s your next period?’ I asked.

‘Uhm, let’s see. I have Math. What about you guys?’ Kyle replied.

‘We have biology.’

‘Oh,’ he said with a frown. ‘I guess I’ll see you later then.’ He gave me a peck on the cheek before walking to his class.

As I turned around, I saw that some girls were shooting daggers at me as Kyle left, especially Jolene. Jolene is the Queen bitch of the school. Although she had a sweet voice and a pretty face, her personality was like thrash. She mocked the freshmen whenever she could and laughed at the teachers. Her clique was also the same. Wendy was princess bitch number one while Melanie was princess bitch number two. The way they dressed, talked and acted were almost exactly the same, bitchy and uncaring. The problem was that Jolene was absolutely in love with Kyle. It’s so obvious that everyone in school knows about it, everyone except Kyle. It’s like whenever there is an event or a party, she would approach him, hold his arm and smash her boobs against him and talk to him in her fake voice. Then Kyle will usually squirm about and push her away lightly. Not that I'm jealous or anything, but its gross okay? But before Kyle and I was an item, I was pretty envious of her courage. It’s like I could never bring myself to show Kyle that I like him. But after dating Kyle for 3 months over the holidays, I am really getting a little bored of him. Not that he is a bad boyfriend though. It’s because he is really not my type. I have always wanted to tell Kyle that we should break up but I don’t have the heart to do that. Sigh pie. I would love to give Kyle to Jolene now, but it’s way too horrible of me. I’m not such a bad person.
