Chapter 1
"Persephone, get your ass up," my mom said as she was pounding on my door. I sat up and sighed, today was my first day of High School, and I am not excited. Partly because I already know how my day will play out. I jumped out of my queen sized bed, I mean literally jumped because of my small stature, and eyed the outfit that I put together the night before; Denim loose fitting Bermudas, a long sleeved black and white striped tee, black vest, and red tie up boots.
After I got dressed I caught my reflection in the mirror, it was like I was staring into the eyes of a 9 year old, I'm 14. I have thick curly black hair that falls to my armpits, a round face, rosy cheeks, and huge swimming pool blue eyes. Add that to my nonexistent chest, my skinniness, a high pitched voice, pale skin, and my 4-foot-10 height and what do you get? Okay so I have a little complex over looks, so what?
I pulled a brush through my hair, grabbed my bag and stomped in frustration downstairs. "Don't do that, I'm trying to work!" my mother said over the loud R&B music, you know, the ones that they call "baby making songs". She was sitting at the table still in her pajamas writing, with piles and piles of papers surrounding her. My mom was always a bit bitchy when her publishers were on her ass; I've always liked to call her dragon lady.
My mom, Tonya Noler, is a pretty famous author. She is known for the very racy, no, more like explicit content in her so called Romance novels. It was so bad that I didn't even need "the talk" with my own mother, she just handed me a copy of one of her "best sellers", "Deeper than the ocean," and it contained all I needed to know and then some, I don't even like to think about it. Where she gets her inspiration is beyond me, and after reading all of her pieces of "work" myself, I'm pretty sure I don't wanna know. "Morning to you too mom." I said. I turned my head to the clacking of high heel shoes against the wood floor, my older sister, Aphrodite, (yes, my mom has a bit of an obsession with Greek mythology.) walked over to put an arm over my shoulder.
"Morning, sis." She said. I frowned; my inner green eyed monster was threatening to release itself.
"Morning" I said. Ah, Aphrodite. She definitely owned the name. It's like she sucked up every last drop of sex appeal between us, life isn't fair. She has a heart shaped face, her pale skin looked stunning against her thick and wavy black hair that fell to her butt; she had big dark blue eyes. She has big boobs, has an hour glass figure, and is 5'7". So naturally, one little wave of her manicured finger can make the entire population of males bow down and lick her feet.
She was rocking a baggy hunter green shirt, a brown lacy cami underneath, a dark wash denim mini that challenged the school dress code, and green round toe heels. Me and my sister have a pretty good relationship, but whenever we get into fights she's always the one to apologize, because she claims "she can't stay mad at a little girl like me" now THAT'S just cruel, does anybody mind pouring salt into my wounds? Were only 2 years apart, with makes it even sadder.
"Do I look okay," she asked, lowering her head, I hated it when she did that. She took a step back and did a little twirl. I nodded and gave her thumbs up, "you look perfect,"
She smiled," are you excited about High School"
"uh-huh, so excited" I said with as much enthusiasm as I could muster.
I grabbed a granola bar, a decided not to disturb my mother from her work and followed my sister to her car. She owns a white bug convertible, which I would never get, but it's a car nonetheless. She popped on her oversized sunglasses and turned on the radio, Keri Hilson's "Knock you down" came on. While she was driving she said right out of the blue,
"You Know, I'm thinking of making you my assistant,"
Now, where the hell did that come from? No, I'm not surprised; this girl is the queen of randomness.
"I mean you're adorable, smart, organized, you will be perfect." She said.
Ha! I can't believe she had the guts to just ask me that! "Oh Hell No!" I roared, more like meowed. "There is no way on gods green earth; I'm going to be you're assistant!"
"Why not?" she pouted. "Because! And why the hell do you need an assistant anyways?" she started laughing,"
"Because, honey, I'm queen." She said. I started laughing and tried to cover it up with a cough but I ended up sounding like a dying baby seal. My sister is the "queen" of Brookfield High School, whatever the hell that means. She calls herself the head bitch in charge. I haven't seen how "powerful" she is, but the rumors are pretty nasty. But the last thing I need is to be my sister's bitch, no way. "No. Fucking. Way." I said crossing my arms.
