SCREAMS BY AHUSAN
The last glimpse of sunlight shone upon the trees of the Dead Forest. The house sat high surrounded by hills, forest and wide fields of overgrown land. She saw the house and pulled out her phone, attempting to make a call, but with dismay she put it back into her pocket. She decided she’d rest here and get away when the dawn broke again. Opening her suitcase, she withdrew a jumper. The shadows of the trees danced menacingly upon the yard taunting her fear. She felt death as cold wind blew in her direction bringing nothing but silence. She walked slowly up to the old oak door and tapped quietly. The sound filled the silence and echoed round the forest. With an outwards icy breath she said quietly "Is anyone in?" Grabbing the bras handle she twisted the knob and entered. While holding the door open she searched for a light switch on the wall but didn’t find one. She used the only bit of light left, coming from the moon and stars, to find a torch and the extra batteries from within her suitcase. Now with a light source she shut the oak door. She glanced around, shining the torch in every direction, scared of what she possibly might find. Finding nothing but dust, cobwebs and furniture covered in white sheets she relaxed. She saw an old grandfather clock whoms hands had have stopped dead on midnight. Also there, were three giant sofas with four end-tables. They formed a shape of a ‘u’. On each of the end-tables there had once been a bright blue vase full of bright fiery flowers in the most brilliant reds, oranges and yellows, but now stood there were broken vases. All the vases still contained the same flowers but these were dead and rotting this gave, what she though ‘was a very powerful rotting stench’. From this room there were four doorways, in the room, the one in which she entered and the other three each going in a different direction. There was one heading towards the left and towards the right of the room. The Last one was directly on the middle of the back wall, and towards the top-left of the room there was an old marble stairway. She decided to explore the ground floor before finding a bedroom, upstairs, to stay in. After exploring the ground floor, she returned to the first room where she picked up her suitcase and ventured upstairs. She found herself a bedroom, almost right at the end of the corridor, she went in and settled on the bed. It was the best room she could find in the house with one single bed with a dirty white and pink throw blanket and a fitted wardrobe rotting from the inside out. It had layers of light brown paper peeling from the wall and a deep red carpet solid with mud, dust along with various other things. Slowly she began to fall to sleep. Even though she was tired she told herself to stay awake, but being as tired as she was, she fell into a deep sleep. He walked down the corridor towards the room where she stayed. His footsteps creaked on the old wooden flooring as he passed each rotting door to different bedrooms. He knew what he was looking for as he stopped outside the room where she was sleeping. Slowly he opened the door. Silence. The forest was silent as it leant towards the house, as it was listening to what was happening and what was about to begin.
