Careful What You Wish For - Chapter 8 They left the house, taking Caitlyn's Porsche through the estate. It was a good twenty minute drive to Adrian's so they had some time to get psyched. Janine scratched around in her bag and then pulled out a blank CD. "What's that?" asked Caitlyn, taking her eyes off the road for a second. "You'll see!" exclaimed Janine as she popped the CD into the stereo. A mischievous smile lit her lips as she skipped through the songs on the CD and then hit play. The sounds of 'Untouched' by the Veronica's filled the car and Janine laughed, turning the volume up so far that the bass shook the car. Janine and Caitlyn bounced and danced in the car, shout-singing the words to all of their favourite party jams, bursting out into fits of giggles when one of them got the words wrong. The drive continued on like that, the atmosphere light and happy, filled with excitement and laughter that Caitlyn realised she'd missed way too much. It was all great, until they reached Adrian's house. Adrian's parents owned some serious hotels and casinos in Rio de Janeiro and it made them pretty rich. According to Amber, both of his parents were workaholics so they left Adrian here under the care of his two older brothers while they were off on the other side of the world. His older brothers were supposedly in college, but nobody really knew because nobody had ever seen them. Amber had told Caitlyn that Adrian didn't like to talk about them, but they were never around. All of it worked out pretty sweetly though - Adrian could have the most killer party's whenever he wanted and there was no-one at all to stop him from doing whatever the hell he wanted. Adrian gained status and popularity as the 'Rich Hot Bad Boy' that every girl wanted as her own and every guy wanted for the recognition gained from being his friend. Adrian had been screwed over countless times by sick people who hurt him in ways that would make your head spin - and then you'd reconsider how bad it actually is to take another's life. Adrian was on his own being targeted by people who wanted nothing more than to use him, and when it all came crashing down, he'd turn to the only thing he could use to bring him comfort. He got himself into to some really bad situations with drugs. One night he passed out down Amber's road, right by her house. Amber and Caitlyn were on their way home from a party and Amber nearly ran him over. Amber recognised him from school and knew about his rep as a bad boy. Ambz had been screwed over, cheated on and hurt in really messed up ways by guys before, and at that time she was far from trusting any one ever again. It was two in the morning and the night was pitch black, the wind around them cold and biting as it swayed the clouds that covered any possible light from the stars. You couldn't even see the moon the sky was so smothered in dark storm clouds. Adrian lay forlorn on the ground, his sleek black fringe stringy in his shut eyes, his blue lips quivering slightly and his square face with his high cheekbones and strong jaw devoid of colour. His black shirt hugging his toned chest and arms was torn, his faded baggy jeans ripped and dirty. Amber knelt down on one side of him, taking his cold wrist in her soft and warm hand to check the speed of his pulse. Caitlyn was taken aback by the look on Amber's face, not to mention her reaction to this boy. He was a BAD boy, and if that wasn't enough, he had the /worst/ rep! Why was Amber so comfortable with him when he was clearly worse than all the other boys that had hurt her? Amber's full pink lips were jutted out in an unhappy pout; her usually cold and icy blue eyes looked like running water, flooded by emotion. Her long curly auburn hair with various shades of ruby red highlights fell around her face, framing its oval shape. Amber's face held an expression that Caitlyn didn't recognise - she looked almost pained, hurt and maybe even a little panicked. Amber's sleek brown brows furrowed a little and she looked like she was concentrating heavily, as if trying to keep a grip, to hold something back. Caitlyn looked away from Amber, unable to withstand the intensity of the look on her face. She looked to the sky, the dark clouds growing thicker and darker as the icy wind whipped up and swirled around her face, stronger this time.
