Chapter 27

“What the fuck is going on in here!?” Jared demanded furiously.  Standing at the door his big body blocked out all the light from the hallway, making him a dominant presence in the room.

“Oh... Goddess!” Dava breathed heavily into the crook of Adam’s shoulder. She was holding on to him for dear life.  Her arms tightly wrapped around his neck while her body continued to tremble from the exquisite pleasure of their newly completed bond.

She should have been happy, excited or even content with all that had just happened but it was awfully hard to drum up any of those feelings when her dad was standing at the door looking like he was about to commit murder.

It didn't take a genius to see that he was furious and ready to start knocking heads around.

She squeezed her eyes closed and prayed this was all a really bad nightmare. Any second now she was going to wake up in her own bed and everything would be back to normal or at least what she considered to be normal before Adam stormed into life, turning it completely upside down.

A sharp pang struck her deep in her chest at the mere thought of a life without Adam. He was her mate and she was his. Her wolf knew it and she knew it. There was no changing that fact no matter how complicated her life had suddenly become.

“Are you okay?” Adam whispered at her ear, reminding her of the compromising situation they were in.

She groaned. How much more embarrassing could this get?

Am I okay? That seemed like a pretty stupid question at the current moment; especially considering the circumstances. She was still reeling from the intensity of it all.

There was more to it though. If she wasn’t mistaken she was already showing the signs of her first heat and that didn’t make any sense. Females didn’t go into heat until seven to ten days after they consummated their mating.

Never before the actual act.

But she couldn’t deny what she felt. There was no other way to explain it.  She was in heat.

"This can not be happening to me,” she mumbled.

“Oh,” her father cut in abruptly, “I think that it’s pretty clear that it’s already happened. I think the only question now is what am I going to do about it.” He turned his glare on Adam, “You,” he pointed his finger sternly at him. “I want to see you outside... now! Alone.”

“Yes, sir.” Adam spoke up, his eyes staying on Dava’s face. He heard her father’s retreating footsteps and lightly touched her cheek.

“No,” she yelped and started to try and sit up. “You can’t go.  He will kill you.”

Adam held her down easily.  He was still lying on top of her, their bodies still connected as one.  Gently, he grabbed her chin and forced her to look at him.  “We need to talk,” he said seriously.  “You know that, sweetheart.  He will never conceded to this mating if I can’t prove my worth to him.  I have to show him that I can protect you.  That I’m willing to fight for you.”

“No,” she cried.  “You don’t.  We can leave again.”

“Not this time.  I have to do this,” he told her again.  “I’ll be fine.  I promise.”

“But...”

He silenced her with a soft kiss against her lips.  Her body stirred against his as her wolf reached towards the surface and he pulled back from her so he could see her face.  “No buts. This needs to be dealt with now.  You have to trust me.”
