“Honey, were only thinking of your best interest” my mother went on, giving my father a wary look.
I pressed my lips firmly together, not trusting myself to speak, with all this anger wanting to explode out of me, talking wouldn’t be in my best interest. “You remember your mother’s good friend, Ariel right?” my dad asked, and I nodded limply.
Ariel was my mother’s sister, in every way but by blood. They weren’t biological sisters.
They had been best friends since kindergarten, their own mothers were close, but my mom’s mom died when my mom was only thirteen and her mother had made it so when she died she would go live with Ariel and her mother. So their close friendship turned to sisterhood while my mother grieved for her mother.
They grew closer and stronger as the years went on, but as adult hood hit and they began to have their own families they had to separate. They used to meet up at least once year, but theirs jobs grew serious and they kind of lost touch so I don’t know why my dad’s bringing her up.
“Yeah. What about her?” I asked, hesitantly.
“Well, your mother has talked to her, and she suggested you go live with her for the summer…” my dad trailed off as my eyes widened and my mouth fell open.
“You declined right?” I asked and my mother sighed.
“It’s for the best, you don’t need to be around all the drama and rumors that are sure to start” my mother said, and I just sat there processing the information.
I opened up my mouth, ready to explode and tell them they weren’t thinking right but just then there was a honk outside, “I have to go” I said stiffly, and pushed off the couch.
I walked outside, not even running upstairs for a second look over, as I jumped into the blaring music car, my friends laughing and joking around I plastered on the smiles and added in the giggles.
“Party NIGHT!” Megan screeched, throwing her hands up, making the car swerve and we all scream in delight and laughter.
“Time to get drunk and regret everything in the morning!” I added, and everyone agreed.
Now here’s where part 2 comes in, Part 2: How I made things worse.
We got to the party, adrenaline running high as we walked into the house, the music booming and the alcohol already getting spread around. “Why hello there, girls” Aaron the guy who was throwing the party said.
Aaron was a good boy on the outside, but a bad boy on the inside. He had the grades and the status, but he also had the most connections. “Hey Aaron, thanks for inviting us” Megan purred, and Aaron smirked.
“My pleasure, refreshments are in the kitchen and well the rooms, there upstairs” he said seductively and Megan smiled suggestively, this was where we are supposed to disappear, so we did just that.
We all went our own ways, after sending a thankful smile in Aaron’s direction, I headed towards the kitchen. I needed some liquor to help me clear my mind. A bunch of people were taking shots, so I joined in.
After about five shots, and I could feel the buzz settling into my mind, I grabbed a drink and went to sit down somewhere, “Aria?” someone said, and I turned to see Jared.
Jared was my first long term boyfriend, and I thought maybe I was in love with the kid but he went to a different high school then me, which was hard but we made it a whole year. Then he cheated on me, and ever since him every guy has screwed me over.
“What are you doing here?” I slurred out, confused as to why he would be here.
“I’m still friends with people who go to your school, and they invited me” he said, and I nodded.
I stumbled a bit, and he caught me which caused me to giggle. “So, how’s your girlfriend?” I asked as I looked up into those big brown eyes, that used to make my heart melt but now, it felt just fine.
“I’m single” he said, his voice seemed to wash over me and my eyes widened as the butterflies starter fluttering in my stomach, my heart beat started beating faster.
It’s like those two words, opened so many possibilities, and let those old feelings rush back to me. “That’s….cool” I breathed out as he helped me straighten up.
I smoothed out my shirt and chugged down my open can, the liquid sliding down my throat smoothly and settling in my stomach perfectly. “How are you doing, Aria?” he asked, and I bit my lip.
Thoughts of my mother and father splitting up, and sending me away entering my head, “I’m good” I said throwing a smile on my face.
“That’s good. Hey I like this song, want to dance?” he asked, and with that he lead me to the dance floor. Our bodies molding together as we danced to the music booming around us, I don’t really remember leaving the dance floor with him or drinking more beer.
I don’t remember the kisses that lead us up the bedroom, his hands on me and my hands on him; all I remember is the flashing lights and the loud sirens. “THE COPS ARE HERE” and then reality hit me like a brick.
