Starting Over


Chapter Three

"Ugh......I'm so disconnecting that stupid doorbell!" I grumbled loudly. I ran down the stairs and shouted "Jesus I'm coming" as the doorbell rang again. I opened the front door and was surprised to see Matt grinning at me.
"I gotta say not my personal choice of clothing for my first day of school but hey no one can call you boring!" he chuckled.
"Oh ha-ha, I'm obviously gonna change out of pjs before school"
"Pity..." he said with a flirty smile playing on his lips as I looked me up and down.
"Oh shut up you so what's up? Where I come from it's a bit early for social calls."
"I was gonna offer you a lift for school and actually you only have about ten minutes to get ready"
"Shit, shit, shit! I'll be down in a tick. Don't go without me!" I screeched while running back upstairs.
I scurried to my wardrobe and put on a pair of black skinny jeans, a black bra and a white (but not see through) off the shoulder kinda peasant blouse with buttons up the front. The outfit showed off my curves but I didn't have many clothes which didn't show off my big hips and rather generous bust size. I've been called fat before because of my shape but I no longer really care about that kinda stuff, or I at least told myself I didn't. I ran to the bathroom and hurriedly prepared myself. With a severe lack of time on my hands I just brushed my hair leaving it untied. I grabbed my school bag and bounded down the stairs. I threw on my green pumps and I was at last ready to go.
"Not bad O'Donnell twelve minutes!" Mathew remarked as I locked the door and jumped into his car. It was navy and nice but no where near as impressive as Alex's car.
"I must've slept through my alarm this morning. Thank god you came or I most definitely would still be in bed"
"Not a problem. You're doing me a favour actually....." he trailed off looking uncomfortable.
"Oh yeah and precisely how am I doing that?" I questioned.
"Well every year the football team has a bet" he coughed
"And this bet involves.......?"
"It's to see how can arrive to school with the best looking girl on the first day back."
"I see and what does the winner get?"
"Eh about two hundred dollars and they become immune from pranks for the rest of the year"
"And you think by bringing me you'll win the bet?" I threw him an incredulous look.
"I know I'll win for sure" He smiled confidently back at me.
"Yeah right! Anyway hypothetically if you win what do I get for helping?"
"Eh the knowledge you've helped out a good friend?" He replied innocently.
"Oh no, I'm not settling for that! If you win which I doubt you will, I want half the money."
"Half the money?! You're not serious, most people would be honoured I picked you and take it as a huge compliment considering I've won the bet every year."
"Ah but if I get out of this car right now you'll have no one to bring and will ultimately lose the bet. So do we have a deal?"
"Fine deal." He said grudgingly. I smiled sweetly at him.
"So what happened to last year's stunner?"
"Huh?"
"Ya know the girl who you brought? Did she break her nose? Get acne? Gain a hundred pounds? Move schools?"
"Oh eh, her name is Laura. She's my ex. She rang me yesterday to arrange when I should come get her and to get back together but I said no. I don't wanna get back with her, not this time. Plus you're far hotter." He added with a wink. I just laughed.
"God all ye Americans think ye're so smooth, don't ye?"
"Well when the cap fits.....Oh hey we're here."
I was nervous when we stopped the car and seen loads of people hanging out in the school's car park.
"Hey no need to worry we have this bet in the bag" Matt said seeing my scared expression.
"Eh that's not what I'm worried bout, it's more the whole new school thing etc that's kinda freaking me out Matt."
"Really cool it cuz everyone is really friendly and you'll fit in really quickly. No more worries right?" Matt looked reassuringly at me while getting out of the car.
Here I go, I thought climbing out of the car. We walked towards the school and I could feel curious stares burning into my back. Matt started rambling bout something but I was to anxious to pay attention. Just as we were walking up the steps I heard a shout behind us, I didn't bother turning.
"Yo Matt. Finally lost the yearly bet huh?" Some guy said to Matt. I glanced around and noted a cheerful, kinda chubby and short guy talking to Matt." I heard Brandon brought Laura. Tough luck man but let the pranks begin I say." He said grinning wickedly.
