~~~~~
I woke up early tangled in my sheets half hanging out of my bed. It wasn’t hard waking up early it was always quite noisy what with so many other kids around.
I picked out some jeans and a shirt then brushed my teeth and hair. I grabbed my bag off the floor and swung it over my shoulder.
 I trailed down the long corridor of the girls’ wing and waited where the staircase joined with the boys’ wings staircase. I always waited there out of habit even though there hasn’t been anything to wait for; for the past 5 months. After about 10 minutes I moved away with a deep sigh.
 I don’t know why I continued this I guess in a way it gave me hope that he would return like he promised.
He didn’t return though he’s never returned not even to say bye. I’m sure he could’ve if he wanted because when you’re eighteen you can leave the orphanage. Our orphanage is weird you’re only allowed to leave once you turn eighteen and nobody but nobody ever sticks around, even for their friends. I thought he would be different though, we’ve been best friends forever and he told me that when he was eighteen he’d get me out some way even if it meant he adopted me.
I stumbled into the kitchen and grabbed some toast. There was food all over the table on different plates; what with there being so many of us we had about 10 dishwashers for all the dirty dishes because hand washing them took too long and we had lots of the same kitchen appliances around the room
“Bye Miss Charlottson” I yelled across the room over the noise.
“Where are you going?” she yelled back while walking over.
“Ah  could you do me a favour and help Sally and Harry with getting some of the little kids to school? I’m afraid they’re a bit tired what with planning for their wedding they’re leaving tonight too.” she asked with a weary smile.
“why not.” I grinned I loved the little kids they were so cute and I liked hanging round with Sally and Harry they had both been bought up here and they stayed unlike everyone else they were only twenty.
I’m the oldest here besides Miss Charlottson, Sally and Harry.
I turned and started gathering together some of the kids together, I got them to stand in pairs with their big puffy coats on and we headed out.
I turned and headed down the path as something warm nudged the back of my knee, I didn’t need to look to know it was Lou.
“Hey Lou” I smiled. Lou had been what kept me going when he left. I found Lou about two months after my best friend had abandoned me. He had been muddy and was curled up at the base of the oak tree that I usually sat under when I was sad. It appeared Lou had the same idea I’d had on that day. We never found his owners even though he had a tag that had Lou scratched on the surface. He usually came and went as he felt but he’s been round non-stop for the past few months.
Outside the primary school the little kids all ran off into the playground. Little Ben tripped on his way so I rushed over and picked him up.
