Prologue

Hey my name is Melanie Santos. I recently turned fourteen and I'm enrolled in Liberty High Middle School.

The Sun went away for awhile 'cause of an asteroid thing (all in Liberty High: the Next Generation Book one) but shortly came back.

Almost tearing my family completely apart, the scientists got it fixed somehow, but the rebuilding process just begun....rebuilding the world and most important: my family (Next Generation Book two).

My friend Dan came to school with bruises so we were all afraid something was wrong at his home. My friend Veronica lives across an apartment from him.

So my cousin Bella, my boyfriend, a bunch of friends and I came up with a plan.......

Over at Veronica's, we had fun but heard no arguing. Everyone eventually left except Veronica, my boyfriend and I.

Then, we heard it.

So, after barely escaping Daniel-Dan's father-we called my dad, Johnny so he came down. He ran into two old friends of his, Shane and Chase, I think.

Daniel and he got into a fight and it ended up in Daniel's apartment. I couldn't see anything but I could hear it.

I heard laughter and glass breaking, then a thud.

(And that's where we left off......)

Chapter One: Falling Out a Window

Seth, my boyfriend grabbed my waist, tight. Tighter than usual.
"What'd you do to my dad?" I asked another guy, Daniel who was in front of the door. Behind Seth and I, Shane shifted his weight.
"I didn't do anything," Daniel said. "He tripped over something." Yeah right, I thought.
"Where is he?" I asked, instead. "Is he inside?"
"Nope," Daniel said as if he was proud. He probably was.
"Then where? What happened?" I held back tears; I knew Seth and I were still in trouble. Beside Daniel, his son, Dan stood, not knowing what to do.
"What happened?" I asked again. This time Dan answered.
"He fell out the window."
"Shut up!" Daniel yelled, to Dan. Dan flinched as if expecting a punch in the face that didn't happen. I didn't know what to say. Seth did, though.
"You pushed him! You pushed him out!"
"I did not! And you need to stop accusing me of things that didn't happen!"
"I know what you did!" Seth yelled.
"No! You're just assuming! I'm gonna call 911." Daniel went inside his apartment as I fell into a chair in the apartment building living room.
Veronica, my best friend went inside her apartment as Shane moved so she could get inside. Seth sat on the arm of the chair, putting his arm around me.
"It'll be okay," he said. I nodded, but doubted it.
"What if he's--" Seth cut me off.
"Don't! Don't even go there!" Seth said. Again, I nodded. Veronica came back, handing me her phone. I took it and dialed my home phone number.
"Hello," said my brother's voice.
"Brandon, I need to talk to Mom. Something's happened," I said.
"What? Are you guys okay?"
"Yeah, but dad..." My voice trailed off.
"Okay hang on.Mom, Melanie's on the phone, hurry!" Brandon yelled.
"Sweetie? Is everything alright?" she asked.
"Dad he's......hurt." I couldn't bring myself to say "dead." I just left it at "hurt."
"Is he..."
"Dan's father called 911. I think I hear the sirens now. I'll call you when I find out more," I said.
"Melanie, we have to go," Seth said.
"Will you be okay?" Mom asked.
"Yeah, Seth will stay with me. I gotta go." She said bye and we hung up.
"C'mon," Seth said. We left the living room and went downstairs. There, Dan, Daniel, Shane, another guy named Chase, and police were all there. An ambulance was there loading someone onto it.
"Is that Dad?" I asked. Shane, hearing me, walked over.
"Yeah, guess what? He's still alive," Shane said.
"Really? I asked. Relief washed over me.
"Yeah, barely though," Chase said.
"Don't worry; everything will be okay," Shane said. Seth tightened his arm around me.
"Can we follow the ambulance?" I asked.
"We can't drive," Seth said.
"I could take you," Shane said.
"Will you?" Shane nodded. "Thanks."
"We can take your dad's car," Seth said, nodding to the parked car across the street. I looked at the window at Dan as we drove away, following the ambulance.

Chapter 2: Hanging On

We sat in the waiting room for half an hour before Mom walked in along with some other people who live with us. Jaci, my aunt; Drake, my uncle; Mark, a guy friend; Brandon, my brother; and Miguel and Bella my cousins, walked in with Mom.
