"Where you going?" Carollena asked as she came into my room with a bowl of popcorn in hand. Her blue eyes held curiosity as she walked in and took a seat on my bed. Staring at me, she awaited my reply while munching on some of her popcorn.

Giving a yawn before smiling, I replied. "My dad invited me for dinner," I told her.

"Are you tired?" Carollena asked. "A little, haven't slept well over the past week at the cabin," I admitted as I remembered all the times Seven woke me up intentionally and unintentionally.

"Oh, that tends to happen when you have wild, crazy se-"

I threw my eyeliner at her knowing what she was going to say next. "No, that is not it. I mean Seven did keep me up, but not in the sense you at hinting at. I am just not use to having someone sleep next me," I blamed.

"I wanted to talk to you about that, but that is a topic for tomorrow. Anyways, try and get home early. You need a good night's sleep."

Choosing not ask her what she wanted to talk about, I just ran my hand over my red blouse that I had put on moments before Carollena walked in, I nodded. "I know."  With that said I grabbed my phone and keys that were on my nightstand. "What are your plans for tonight?" I asked as we walked out of my room and towards the living room.

"Nothing much, just gonna hang around and maybe watch a few movies."

"No girlfriend time tonight?" "Spent all week with her, I think I've had my fair share of Heaven for a few days. Plus, she is going out of town with her brother Seven because they have to deal with some family issue."

I froze right at the door and closed my eyes for a second. Seven had promised he wouldn't do anything ... yet why was he leaving town...

"Is something the matter Anna?" Carollena questioned as she placed her hand on my shoulder.

I shook my head, "yeah, just fine."

"You are remembering, aren't you?" She inquired with a pity look swirling in her eyes.

I arched an eyebrow as I looked over at her. "Remembering?" I asked.

Giving a single nod, Carollena spoke, "the night ... the night that boy robbed us and ... and hurt you."

My mouth formed an 'O' as I realized what she was hinting at. "Uhhh, yeah..."

"Would you feel safer if I walked you over to your dad's?" Carollena asked me.

"No, no, I think I can survive walking next door to his house. Plus, knowing him he will be on his porch watching out for me." I told her as I unlocked the door and twisted the knob open. Walking out the threshold, I glanced over my shoulder at her. "See you soon," I smiled and then started my walk over to my father's house.

My dad was in fact on his porch and sitting on a white wicker chair looking out and over at my house. I could see as I got closer to him that he was smoking a pipe of tobacco.

I started to wonder what was a matter with him, because he only smoked when something was bothering him. Knowing he wouldn't tell me right off the bat, I decided to ask him later. Reaching his porch steps, I grinned. "Hey Daddy," I greeted.

Getting out of his chair and setting his pipe in his brass ash tray, Dad strolled over towards me. He stepped down the steps and suddenly embraced me in a tight hug. "Oh, Anna, I've missed you."

Patting his back, I inhaled the unique woodsy smell of his tobacco. "Missed you too," I stated as he let go of me.

"I have started up the grill and I thought we would have steaks and a salad. How does that sound?"

Following him up the stairs, I nodded. "Sounds good to me. Want me to make the potatoes?" I asked knowing that he got some but still doesn't know how to cook them.

"You don't have too," he said but I heard it in his voice, he really wanted some.

"It is fine. All I have to do is stab them and put the potatoes in the microwave. So easy, you could do it," I teased.

"You and I both know that that microwave hates me," he joked as we walked inside.

"So, how is work going?" I asked as we sat down in the dining room.

Dad grabbed the salt shaker and poured a generous amount on his steak.  "Oh, you know the same old, same old ... just trying to engineer some new tractor prototypes for a company in Wisconsin, other than that nothing new. So, tell me, how was your trip?"

"It was fun. Heaven, Carollena and I all had a blast," I admitted as I avoiding tell him that Seven joined us. "We went sightseeing, visited the small local town, went shopping and we also swam at these really cool waterfall pounds, for lack of a better term."

My dad nodded and leaned back in his chair a tad. "Didn't Seven join you all?"

I sat as still as a stone for a good minute before I looked at him, "yeah ... how did you know?"

"He stopped by here this morning after he dropped you off at home. We had a nice little chat." I ignored the appetizing smell of my food before me and studied my dad for a second. There was more meaning behind his words than he was letting on. He knew something, or better yet, Seven told him something.

"Oh, really, what did you and Seven talk about?"

"You, to be honest," my father bluntly stated. I decided to counteract my dad and lean back too.

"Really, what about me?"

"I hear that boy John was arrested for your attack," Dad said as he avoided answering my question.

"They found his finger prints all over my house," I stated.

"Good kid," my father told me with a look in his eyes that I just couldn't place.

"Agreed."

"I don't believe he did it," my dad stated as he leaned back in and picked up his fork and knife. Cutting into his meat, dad took a bite and smiled.

"You should eat, your food is getting cold."

"What did Seven tell you?" I questioned once more.

My dad gave a faint smile before replying, "he told me just enough." With that said Father started to eat his meal, showing that he wasn't going to elaborate on what exactly Seven said to him this morning.
