Chapter Nine
I had to spend Wednesday night in the hospital. The beeping of machines and creaking of doors were getting on my nerves.
Noelle stayed with me that night, but she seemed distant her expression showed stress as she sat across from me reading her book, but I guessed it would be best not to push it. On Friday Dr. Medicci continued with his analysis until noon, where he happily told me that I was free to go home, with the strict condition of not doing anything that would make me loose energy.
I huge grin spread across my face as Noelle opened the door and turned the lights on.
"Home! Finally." I threw myself on the sofa and turned the TV looking for a interesting channel.
"Alisa." Noelle scolded me, "what did the doctor say about pushing it to the limit."
I laughed, "Noelle I just jumped, I'm not getting a fit."
She shook her head and walked towards the kitchen.
It was then I had the urge to put my pajamas on and just slouch around the house. I climbed the stairs up to my room and changed into a white tank top and shorts and to complete the look... MY FLUFFY SLIPPERS!
"Alisa I'm off to do some paper work alright?" Noelle's voice came up to my room.
"No problem." I walked down the stairs slowly feeling scared of tripping over.
"And remember to take the-"I cut her off.
"The doses, I know Noelle." I gave her a reassuring smile as she walked out the door.
I slumped on the sofa and decided to watch a movie. I chose Titanic, were I get to see Leonardo DiCaprio's lovely face (when he was YOUNG!). I was about to lie down on the sofa when the door bell rang, I paused the screen and turned to look at the clock, it was too early for Noelle to be back, and besides she always takes the key with her.
I opened the door, to see Dawn and Mandy launch themselves at me.
"You're back!" cried Dawn, her violet eyes gleaming in the light.
"We thought it wasn't true and you were still in the hospital." Mandy said cheerfully.
I laughed, "Come on in." I led through the door. "How was school?"
This time it was their turn to laugh, "Quite fun." Began Mandy, "You really do bring gossip Alisa. It was all over school how Ian took you to the hospital and how he 'took care of you'." She gave me a meaningful wink and sprawled on the floor next to the sofa.
Dawn was laughing so much her shoulders were heaving up and down, "I have Math with Trevor, and it was hysterical to watch the way in which he stomped off, or huffed every time anyone would talk about it."
I let a smiled scape my lips and I actually began laughing with them.
"Oh shoot! The doses!" I nearly forgot and made my way to the kitchen leaving the girls sitting on the floor. From a distance I saw the odd combination we made, and how by some strange matter, Mandy and Dawn had met each other and are able to be friends.
I pulled the tube from where Noelle had it kept and took some blood into the syringe; I injected quickly both doses and popped my pill into my mouth.
I walked out slowly and sat on the couch across from the girls... yeah a very odd threesome. I was pulling the needle from my arm when Mandy walked into the kitchen, she looked pointedly at the cloth I was using to wipe away the remains from my arm. "It hurts doesn't it?"
I managed a small smile, "It's a real pain. But what can I say."
She opened the fridge and pulled out a Sprite can.
"Dawn doesn't want anything?" I asked.
She shook her head, "She said she wasn't hungry."
"How come you two have become such good friends now?"
She smiled, "It's not like that, I'm still friends with Cole and Ashley. The thing is that... Dawn seems to care as much for you as I do."
