This is the first chapter of a story i'm writing. i don't know if it's any good, but just leave some comments. Criticism is definately allowed.


Chapter 1-New Kid

The sun was shining right down onto my tanned, soft skin. I was lying on the beach soaking up the sun. I heard a couple of guys walking past me staring at me. They whistled and said things like "Hey, Baby!","How you doing?",trying to get my attention but I never looked. I was too busy relaxing not paying attention to my surroundings. Then I started to hear a buzzing sound that began to get on my nerves. It took me a while to finally notice that I was the only one who could hear it.
Something was pulling me away from this paradise. "No! Leave me alone! I don't want to go!" I kicked, screamed and clawed away at the soft brown colored sand that was now getting to far away for me to touch.
I woke in my bed with the alarm screeching and my mom yelling my name to get up or I'll miss the school bus. I grunted in frustration because my dream had been interrupted so I could go and feel miserable at school.
"Alyssa! Now!" my mom screeched. It took all my effort to get out of bed and take a shower. I sat in my room pondering on what to wear to school. I finally picked out a pair of dark blue denim jeans and a white tank covered by a short pink jacket. Leaving my hair down and putting little make-up on, I was ready for school.
I ran down the steps as I usually do and walked to the kitchen. My mom, dad, and my little sister were sitting at the table eating breakfast. I made a pop-tart and sat across from my sister, Beth. Her real name is Elizabeth but we call her Beth for short.
"You know you were screaming in your sleep again, right?" Beth asked in the most annoying voice I had ever heard. "Yeah. Sorry about that, it's just something about getting woken up so I can go to school." I replied. Beth snickered like the little nerd she was and my mom and dad looked at me in anger. I never really liked school much but, of course, my grades showed that.
Finally the bus arrived. Beth and I told our parents good-bye, grabbed our backpacks and left for the bus. Beth was a freshman in high school and I was a junior. Unfortunately, we had a class together. With my failing Spanish and her being a super genius. We got to school and went our separate ways. When I caught with my friends in the courtyard I noticed an unfamiliar face. It was a guy that looked so new anyone could tell. My friends were gathered around him like he was a celebrity. When I walked up to the group, everyone turned to me and said hi, while giving me a hug. I finally reached the new guy and I noticed that he was really cute. I didn't see him that well when I was walking up but now that I am up close and personal, I couldn't wait to talk to him.
"Hi," I said in my most polite and anxious voice, "I'm Alyssa Johnson."
I held my hand out waiting for him to take it and shake it. "Hello. I'm Christopher Holmes. But you can call me Chris." he said while shaking my hand. "Well it's very nice to meet you Chris. Where are you from?" I asked. While I waited for him to reply I noticed that everyone was looking at us in awe. "I'm from Phoenix, Arizona" he replied. "Really? My aunt lives there. I visit her sometimes during the summer." I said in excitement. "That's cool. My dad lives down there and I moved up here with my mom. I visit him during the summer now. Maybe we we'll run into each other again." He said smiling. I smiled making sure I showed all my pearly whites. Then the bell rang and we all dispersed for class.
In first block, the only thing I could think about was that conversation with Chris. Who knew the new kid would have such an impact on me?
After first block, I met up with my best friend, Holly. We had our next two classes together before lunch, and we walked together. On our way, Holly brought up Chris. "That new guy is so delish. If I had the nerve, I would totally ask him out." I stopped and told her to look up. She did and she turned completely red with sheer horror because she realized he was standing right in front of us, and heard everything she just said. I couldn't help but burst out laughing. She gave me a deathly stare that just made me laugh harder. When I finished, she glared at me then walked away full of embarrassment. Chris looked at me like he didn't know what just happened, then I started laughing again.
"She seems like a nice girl?" he tried to sound flattered but his voice sounded confused. "She's really nice, but can have a tendency to be a doormat. I try to tell her to stick up for herself but she prefers the shadows I guess." I explained. I really did feel bad for Holly. She was my best friend and she constantly let people walk all over her and I didn't like it. No matter what I said, she never wanted my help. Being popular and having her question why I'm friends with her hurts me. I try to tell her all the time that just because I am popular doesn't mean that she still isn't my best friend. She always has been and always will be.
