The Dark World: Book 1

Well, here it is. It's called Book One of a small series I'm calling The Dark World. All ideas, suggestions and comments are welcome as long as they're not too harsh. Tell your friends about this. It's pretty long so sorry about that. Hope you enjoy.=]

Book One
The Dark World

Those who look for the monsters should beware not to become monster by thyself...
-Nietzsche

Prologue
I believe what I want to. I believe in magic. I believe there is a Dark World, where I want to be...and I believe there is a Light World, where I am now.
I believe being different is normal.
I believe in vampires.
My name is Marlem Ordaz and I am thirteen years old.
I believe that everyone has a story, short or long, they are all meaningful and affect everyone in the universe. I believe stories begin when you are born. My story began on May 10th of 1995 on the day I was born, but it wasn't until the 2nd of April in the year of 2009 did things start to become more interesting... when I first saw him.

2 April 2009
Thursday
I looked around fifth period science classroom studying and observing the students in my class. In Baldwin Park, the boys dress like want-to-be gangsters and the girls dressed preppy and like want-to-be cheerleaders. There I was, stuck in the middle, the oddball of the group, the black sheep. Don't get me wrong and not to sound full of myself or anything, but I'm cute. I'm not drop dead gorgeous but I have a little something going on for me. If I made an actual effort I could probably be very pretty. But I don't.
I just moved to Baldwin Park at the beginning of eighth grade, about a week late. I'd thought that I'd be okay, you know? It was the beginning of the year; everyone was still probably awkwardly roaming around Jones Jr. High School trying to figure out who would be hanging out with who that year.
I was way off.
By the first week, apparently everyone had picked their cliques and groups and I was the only one stuck without any friends. No one exactly extended their hands out to me that first day. Like I said, I was the oddball.
In a school of gangsters and preppies, I was the only one who resembled a Goth. I remember I was wearing ankle high white sneakers with black roses and black laces on them. I was wearing black skinny jeans and then a black shirt with a white leather logo of Ruby Gloom that I had sewed on. I was wearing fingerless gloves and I had about twenty dangly black bracelets and charms on my wrists.
My short hair, various shades of dark brown was, as usual, a mess and sticking out in a few places like if I hadn't brushed my hair in the morning (believe me, I really tried to brush my hair but it absolutely refuses to cooperate). I knew there must have been black rings underneath my eyes because I'd spent the entire previous night awake. Then, I was carrying my faded grey side-backpack that had only about a thousand little clips hanging on them like Lindsey Lohan in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Except, instead of that Wolf guy, I had Ruby Gloom, Psycho, Skelington Jack, Aiden, Underoath, Capital Lights, British flags and other things.
By the time I sat down on my assigned seat during first period, I already heard the whispers beginning to spread. By lunch, everyone in Jones knew who I was: Marlem Ordaz, the freaky Goth Girl.
I rolled my eyes pretending I didn't care what everyone was saying and I put on that screw-the-world aura around me but really, it did hurt a little bit. I used to live in Duarte where people had just started to understand that I was weird and I wasn't about to change and people were starting to accept it. Then the rents decided to drop the bomb that we were moving to Baldwin Park. Ugh.
I didn't eat lunch; I just grabbed a green apple (I'm totally addicted to them along with the energy drink Rockstar) and sat on a big rock underneath the shade of a tree and while I bit into my apple I read a book by the totally awesome Anne Rice.
Then, the top dogs of the school/mean girls came up to me with their hands on their hips. The one in the middle, apparently the leader said, "You're the new girl right, the Goth?"
No, my name's Tracy Smith and I want to be a cheerleader. Want to be totally awesome best friends? Giggle.
I glared at the girl, "I'm not obliged to answer." I totally stole that line from Sasuke Uchiha.
The girl glared at me, "Excuse me?"
I stood up putting my book back in my beloved backpack and said, "You know, its common courtesy to introduce yourself when you approach someone and want to know more about them."
