"No way! That's ridiculous!" I shouted, outraged by his proposition.
Logan had just let me know what his little 'plan' was, and I was really not happy. He decided that in order to keep me safe, we had to run away to somewhere quite far, preferably Europe. He also mentioned that I was not allowed to see my family before we left. "Come on Max, think about it. People are looking for you, everything we do has to be in secret. If you go see your family, someone will in no doubt find out, and then they could be used as leverage. They could hurt your family in order to get to you. Do you want that? This is about them, not you." Logan responded sounding quite exasperated. What he was saying seemed reasonable, but that didn't mean it was any easier to accept. "Okay, I understand that, and I guess I agree; but do you think that if I go missing they'll just sit there and accept it? They'll call the cops, the media will get involved, and then the werewolves will definitely know who my family is." I reasoned. "Don't you think I know that?" Logan snapped. I flinched slightly at his tone. He took a deep breath and continued, sounding much more comforting now. "You don't need to worry about that. Remember how I mentioned that my pack saved us from Leo before?" I nodded in response. "Well, we take precautions in case problems like these come up. Three members of our pack are in the police, and they will make sure this stays on the low. The plan is to tell your family that you witnessed a crime, and that for your safety you have been placed in a witness protection program. This will allow us to take you away for a few weeks until we figure out how we're gonna solve this 'little problem'. Alright?" I had to admit i was surprised, and quite frankly a little impressed. "Wow" i murmured, slightly embarrassed at my outburst. "You've really thought this through, haven't you?" "Of course I have." Logan smiled warmly at me and placed a hand on my shoulder. "I'll take care of you Max." "Thank you" I blushed and looked down. Wait, what? Blushed!? I cant even remember the last time I blushed, I wasn't aware that was possible. Life is getting weird. "Wait a minute, what about school?" I suddenly realized that my school would probably wonder where I was. I usually get good grades, but I'm not a genius, I cant miss a few weeks of school and not feel the repercussions. I would need to get back to my studies as soon as possible. Damian had been quiet throughout the whole argument, but he suddenly spoke up. "Max..." Damian murmured seriously and his eyes bored intensely into mine. "This is about your life. You need to forget about things like school. I know this is a lot to take in, but you're in our world now." He took a deep breath, and his voice suddenly got very grave. "They're never gonna give up, and you cant change what you are. Max, your life will never be the same again." I felt tears sting my eyes. This was another thing that rarely happened, but I was seriously worried now. Damian was right. Will I ever be able to see my family? Will I ever be able to have a normal life again? I felt a tear spill over and decided I was too proud to just stand here and cry. "yeah..." i murmured. "I'm gonna go lie down" I whispered, and walked away. I woke up a few hours later as there was a soft knock on the door. I looked up to see Damian poke his head in and smile sheepishly at me. "Sorry to wake you. How are you feeling?" he asked as he closed the door behind him and walked over to me. "I'm okay, its just hard, you know?" I replied and patted the bed beside me to show Damian he was welcome to sit with me. He sat and looked down at his shoes. "Max, I am so sorry. You must be so scared." he looked up into my eyes and I felt myself melt at his pain. I didn't deserve a friend like him. He was so genuinely worried, and we barely knew each other. He suddenly took my hand firmly and a look of determination flickered across his face. "I promise I'll make it better Max. I know you're scared now, but your life will be normal again, I'll make sure of it." he promised. Again, I felt that tug at my heart, drawing me to him. I looked into his beautiful amber eyes and felt myself get lost in them. How!? I wanted to shout. How could my life possibly be normal again!? But he looked so determined that I just couldn't do that to him. I simply wrapped my arms around him and leaned my head on his shoulder. "Thank you Damian" I whispered. "I don't deserve a friend like you"
