February 26th, 2018...

(Isabelle’s POV)

Something big is gonna happen. I don’t know why, but I just have this feeling. All week, Caleb’s been preparing for this huge mission of his, nurturing the idea that he’s gonna go out and rid the world of evil. Honestly, it’s beginning to worry me. I mean, at first, I thought he was just talking tough—-you know, like men do—-but I think he might actually mean it. He might actually be planning on going out there.

For the past couple of days, I’ve watched him load up the Escape: guns, clothes, ammunition, and though I try to act as though I don’t agree with the plans he’s making, deep down, I know it’s what has to be done. He’s right. We can’t stay here forever.

Each day, I grow more and more afraid that one of them will find us here in our remote house by the beach. Hell, if it weren’t for that, surely we’d be dead by now. Surely, if it weren’t for the house, the distance, the remoteness of it all, we wouldn’t stand a chance.

We have neighbors. Don’t get me wrong. Well... I guess I should say we did have neighbors. Not anymore. They all fled the country the first chance they got. Then again, none of them had a husband who worked for the SCPD.

Elijah’s growing increasingly restless by the day, and I’m running out of excuses: why we can’t go outside, why we can’t do anything fun. If he asks one more time, I just don’t know what I’ll do.
