Chapter 2
Like most schools named after saints, ours had a medium-sized chapel worked into the first floor of the Theology building. It was empty for the most part and even more so this winter. There weren't many students that prowled around here and even less now that they'd gone to their specific homes. So it was quite a shocker to see someone in the chapel at this date. Even more that I was magically transported here from more than a hundred yards away in the blink of an eye. Even more that I recognized one of the people standing before me. I stood up warily and eyed the couple. The man wore an open faced cream colored duster over a crisp suit. The woman wore a more tightly bound trench coat over a different ensemble than I last saw her, but still casual - jeans and a plain purple blouse that couldn't have been comfortable in this weather. "What is he doing here?" the man snarled acidly. The guy was only an inch or two taller than me. He looked lean and strong. He had blond hair neatly combed and had dark grey eyes. His face was angular which gave him a tough-ish look. "Obviously, I've brought him here," the woman said patiently. She was around my height and had red curling hair framing light green eyes. I knew who she was but I couldn't be sure whether our short encounter from before was something I just made up. Like a strange and insightful dream. "Alessandra?" I asked warily. The man took in a surprised breath. "He knows who you are," he said through gritted teeth and glared at her. "We must go. Now." "Wait," I called. "Who-no-what are you?" "It is none of your concern, child," the man spat at me. "I'm not talking to you," I spat right back. "Alessandra, please." Alessandra smiled at me. "Forgive me for burdening you, Louis," she began. "What!?" the man snarled viciously. "He's our option?" he jabbed a finger at me and glowered at Alessandra. Now that was just rude. "Excuse me!" I snarled. "We're having a conversation over here." The man glared daggers at me and I thought I saw his eyes shift in hue. Alessandra laid a hand on his shoulder before stepping forward between us. "What's going on? Who or what are you?" I asked again. "You already know who I am, Louis," she said serenely. "And I'm sure you have developed your own theories to what I am." I pondered that for a moment. It's true that I knew who she was but I still didn't have a solid idea on what she was. Alex and Dinah also pitched in their ideas. Even noting these and no matter how many times I juggled the thought in my head, I always came up with different answers. There wasn't enough to go on. I wasn't going to tell them that, though. "Alessandra," I stated firmly. At least I did know who she was. Alessandra chuckled in affirmation while Glarey McGlareglare just did what he was best at. "Why'd you bring me here, then?" I asked. I was surprised by how calm I was considering I just got teleported and there are two obviously inhuman creatures in front of me. I guess seeing a werewolf, a woman shoot lightning from her hands and an unknown creature prepped my mind for it. "Like I said," the man interrupted again. "You don't need to know." "Okay, sunshine, who are you anyway?" I asked angrily. He was really pissing me off now. He just glared at me like that would throw me against the wall or something. I suddenly remembered getting thrown against a tree and a car without anyone touching me and took a step back. The corners of the man's mouth quirked in a creepy way. "His name is Zacharias," Alessandra answered, prompting another glower from Zacharias. "Seriously?" I asked skeptically. Zacharias didn't miss the note. "What about it?" he snarled. I should probably take time to research what species of bear taught him how to speak. "Nothing," I responded, trying to imitate Alex's sometimes-swagger. Zacharias smiled at me in a creepy way that brought be back a few more steps. "If there is nothing then we must take our leave," he responded. "Did you bring me here?" I asked Alessandra, ignoring him. She smiled and merely nodded before pouting thoughtfully, "In fact, it took me three tries. Interesting." What did she mean by that? "Enough!" Zacharias bellowed. "We must go now." "Why did you bring me here then?" If I had to repeat that question one more time I was gonna blow a gasket. "Alessandra," he muttered silently but still audibly, "Informing him might just make matters worse." "We won't know if we don't try," she said, still as composed as ever.
