Chapter One
I live in a world you may not understand. A world where the darkness rules the night. A deadly virus broke out twenty five years ago, I was not born yet. The virus spread in London and killed hundreds of people, the thing is the virus did not actually kill them, they came back, but not in the normal form they use to be. The undead. They came back as vampires. No one knew this until attacks started happening after they finally thought the virus later on known to be virus Vandril was gone, accept they we were wrong. The government soon realized the people that had caught the virus were coming back to life, but as the undead. To contain this they built a twenty five thousand foot high stone wall around London; containing the virus hoping to keep it from crossing over. They never evacuated the forty four thousand people still in London. Those people had to fight to survive. The government finally started to do something once almost every civilian sued them. They made a deal with the turned. They could not hunt on any human from six in the morning to ten at night; most humans would stay indoors at night, never leave their house or stay out to late. Every so often there would be one unlucky person that would lose track of time. There were usually three options given to the person that was found and cornered by them. One was be their meal, two be turned and option three become the leader's slave or the vampire of the leader's choice. Most picked option two, but sometimes there were no options, it depended on their thirst and their generosity. If there was no option, it was usually option three that happened the most. I never would have dreamed to be one of those people cornered and given those options or none. Getting back to me and my story. When my mother had me they were not allowing women to become pregnant and give birth, in case the female had the virus, but showed no symptoms and it was passed onto the baby, which did happen, but not to me. I was born healthy and alive. My mother died a year and a half after having me from the virus; they did not let her come back as one of the vampires. I was sent to live with my father, which was not too fond of my mother and really did not care for me. He paid for my clothes, food and schooling, he had his own life, a wife and three other children. I was just in the background, just going through the scenes of my life. I got kicked out when I was seventeen from rebelling against the government, my dad found out and made a huge scene and kicked me out, I had to move in with my boyfriend Lyric, he is a year older, and he has a job, a house and life. He said it was never a problem, he loves me, but I always felt like I was intruding. I could tell he loved me too much to say no, but I insisted on paying half of rent, it drove him nuts. I still live with him, he still argues with me when I give him half of the rent every month. I was sitting in my car, I just got home from work, it was seven oh seven. I grabbed my purse and stepped out of my red SUV and walked to the front door. The door was opened, Lyric must be home already. I walked in slipping my shoes and sweater off. "Hayden, babe is that you?" He called from the kitchen. "No it is the grim reaper here to kill you!" I yelled and walked into the kitchen. "Oh no I am so scared, what should I do?" He wrapped his arms around my waist from behind me. "Mm kiss me and I will go away." "I don't want you to go though." He pressed his lips to mine and I turned around sweetening the kiss. "Are you hungry?" He asked pulling away and lightly pressing his lips to mine twice before letting me answer. "What are you making?" His cooking was never usually the most editable and it scared me what he was making. "The one thing I can cook; spaghetti, do not worry I made sure I followed the recipe carefully, I will not poison you." He chuckled lightly. I smiled and hugged him tighter. "Something bothering you babe?" He smiled and rubbed my back. "No there is nothing wrong; it is just nice to hug you." I giggled and he smiled. He let me go and walked back over to the cabinets and pulled out two white glass plates. "Sit down, relax, I will serve dinner." He gently pushed me towards the dining room. I rolled my eyes and walked into the beige and scarlet dining room, the table had a simple black cloth cover and the chairs were scarlet red with black frames. I sat down and waited, I knew he would walk in any minute. I looked down at my raw fingers; my anxiety had gotten the best of me earlier. I was twiddling with my fingers when he walked in. He placed the plate down in front of me and put the other one in front of where he sat before he grabbed my hands.
