Alright - Part three

2

Kate

"Kate, I'm leaving to Pauli's to get some supplies, be good, have fun, and try to get to school on time today. Love you baby." Mum yelled from across the house -she always did that, you know, have a conversation from three rooms away; I'm sure the neighbours knew us better than they know their own family- I heard the door shut behind her. Grumbling to myself I tried to find my socks, some socks, any socks! I don't care, I just need socks. I dropped to my knees, still with bandaids, and started searching under my bed. Yes!! One sock, it was blue and red striped, I put it on. Well one down, one to go. I heard the toast pop and ran into the kitchen, hurriedly buttered it and started eating while looking through the house for the pair to the sock on my foot. Damn it, damn it. Made my way to the lounge, looked under a pillow. Another blessed sock, too bad it wasn't the matching one, it would have to do. Somebody was knocking on the door, probably mums forgot something. Holding my toast in my mouth, I jammed the sock on my other foot while hopping towards the door. I opened the door. It wasn't mum. Oh god, how could I have forgotten he was coming? I had thought about it all night. Then of course this morning I was running late, as usual, and it completely slipped my mind, all I was thinking about was bloody socks. Chester stood there staring at me, his dimples showing, a sure sign that he was laughing at me, silently. I didn't have time to care. I grabbed the toast from my mouth, finished my mouthful then invited him in.
"Come in, come in, wait here, I'll only be a sec," Now where did I leave my shoes?

Chester

I made my way home slowly. There would surely be a big fuss as soon as I got home. My little brother, Oskar, would not get involved. He would go off to his room probably listen to his loud music. My other younger brother Sam would start it. Sometimes he could be so annoying; he acts as if moving affected only him. It bothered all of us, and it's not my fault that Jack, my older brother, stuffed up. They can't expect us to live completely on our own, we have to make some friends, besides, I can control myself, and I wouldn't get too close. I wouldn't tell our secret. And I'd be smart enough to hide it. In the end, Mum and Dad would understand. They would lay out the rules, and explain to me what I already know, but they would not forbid me, because the truth is, they just want us to be happy. I walked past the now empty cafe; I suppose it didn't stay open for tea. I caught the bus that stopped close to our new house, which was about 10 minutes away from Kate's' house. Kate, so far she is the only upside to moving. I got off the bus and made my way through the streets till I go to my street, I made my way up the steps then took a deep breath before opening the front door. I had only taken one step in, and closed the front door behind me when...
"What were you thinking?! Have you learnt nothing?! You can't do this to me. You can't do this to us. You are selfish. I can't believe you would do this. I thought you understood Chester."
"Sam..."
"NO! Don't you dare try and talk your way out of it, how can you stand there and pretend like its nothing?"
"I'll be in my room if anyone needs me," Oskar started up the stairs.
"Sam, it was nothing, you can't expect us to ignore everyone, ignore everything, She fell, I helped her, were allowed to make friends, we can at least try to be normal."
"BUT WERE NOT NORMAL!" It was when we got loud enough for the neighbours to hear that Mum decided to step in.
"Sam honey, calm down."
"No! He's going to ruin everything, just like Jack did!" Mum put on her 'don't you argue with me voice.'
"Sam Maddock, don't you dare speak to me like that. Now I want you to take a deep breath, and go to your room to calm down," She then continued on, "Chester, you father and I would very much like to talk to you in the lounge room." I followed Mum into the lounge. Dad was already sitting on the couch; mum went and sat next to him. I sat in the seat opposite them. My Dad opened his mouth and started his speech.
"Okay Chester, now we know it's hard. Life is tough. And we, your mother and I, are both incredibly happy that you are already making new friends. But we want you to remember. We want you to know for one hundred percent sure that you know what you're doing, because if what happened last time happens again, then were going to create a cycle, a cycle of moving, fitting in, getting comfortable, getting too comfortable, being found out, then moving again. And nobody wants that," he continued this rave on for a very long time; I just sat there and nodded and said yes at the right times. Finally mum finished up, "So what we're trying to say is, that we love you, and we want you to be happy, we want you to try and be as normal as possible, but the truth is darling, that you're not normal, were not normal, we were blessed with a gift, but we have to keep it a secret, okay." Mum then snapped out of her 'speech' mode and turned back into herself, "So Chester, what was her name? Was she nice? What did you get up to? Is she okay? She fell over pretty hard, she was very pretty." I sighed, and pretended to yawn.
