Prologue

Today was my 16th birthday and I was so excited! I was officially at age to mate. Ever since I was a little girl I had dreamt of this day.The day I would finally meet my mate. To be honest, I wasn't as excited about meeting my mate as I was about finally shifting. Female wolves could not shift into their wolf forms until their mate officially claimed them and after they completed the mating bond. Male wolves on the other hand were able to shift as soon as they hit puberty. It was a cruel, cruel world. Humans would probably call us werewolves but we were nothing like the way modern day movies portrayed us. For example, when we shifted we didn't grow five times our size, and we didn't need a full moon to shift. Humans would not change into wolves if they were bitten for any reason.

Being the alphas daughter, I was being thrown a coming out party. It was basically an announcement to everyone that I was ready to find my mate. Alot of wolves would be here, so I was really looking forward to it.

I twirl around in front of my full body mirror admiring my dress. It was black and about two inches above my knee. It brought out the blue in my eyes and of course did wonders for my figure. Not that I needed it. I took after my mom. I was 5'6", black hair, blue eyes, and had a slim figure. The good thing that I inherited from my dad, were my deep dimples on my cheeks that showed even if I wasn't smiling.

"You look beautiful, honey." My mom says, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I turn towards her, a big goofy grin on my face.

"I know."

She chuckles at my insolence. I slip on my see-through heels and admire my reflection one more time.

"Do you think the curls will stay this time?" I ask. I had really straight hair so it was hard for me to keep any other style for long. She doesn't answer so I turn my head towards her and find her looking at me with tears in her eyes.

"Aww, mom. Don't cry." I tell her as I walk over to her and hug her. She hugs me back tightly and then pulls back to look down at me, a wobbly smile on her face.

"You've grown so much." she whispers.

"I'm only 16, your acting like if i'm leaving for college." I joke.

She just smiles down at me and says, "Alright. Come on your daddy wants to see you in his study."

She wipes the tears from her face and turns to leave to her bedroom.

"Aren't you coming?"

"I still need to get ready, I'll be down later." she calls out to me as she closes the door to her room. Shrugging, I walk to my dads 'study'. It was were pack business was usually held so I was little confused as to why he wanted to see me there. I pick up my hand to knock on the door but freeze when I hear male voices coming from within.

My curiosity getting the better of me, I put my ear against the wall and listen in.

"So then everything is set. We'll make the official announcement on Monday." that was my dad.

What announcement, I wonder?

There's only silence after he speaks. No one answers him. Well that was weird, I could have sworn I had heard multiple voices just a minute ago.

Could he have been talking to him-

I gasp as the door is opened swiftly from under my ear. I trip on my own foot trying to regain my balance. My hand shoots out just as my face is about to make contact with the floor. At the last possible second, I shut my eyes tightly and brace myself for impact.

Warm arms wrap around me stopping my fall. I open my eyes slowly, coming face to face with the floor.

"Gaby? Honey, are you okay?" My dad calls out to me as i'm slowly righted up.

"Yeah, i'm fine." I say, irritated. I turn towards the person who had probably been the one to catch on that someone was listening by the door.
