Hey everyone who's following this

I'm so happy that most people are enjoying the series so far. I'm really enjoying writing this.
Anyways, this is kind of where the prologue is worked in. There's a lot more action than the past parts. I wrote the confrontation scenes as best as I could so comment on what you think. There's a surprise cliffhanger at the end just so that I could be suspenseful haha :D

Once again please vote, comment and recommend if you enjoyed it and thank you for following the series. Please enjoy now :)

Chapter 12

It was around ten when we drove down the fastest road out of town at a speed that would've gotten us arrested if a police siren wasn't magnetized to the top of the car. The siren also helped keep the traffic in line. It took all my power to keep from jumping up and down in the car in a mixture of fear and anticipation. I didn't mention to my uncle and his partner that my headache was getting worse and worse the farther we got. I imagined myself suddenly fainting from the headache when the wolves pounced.

My uncle kept trying to radio the Police Department while Paul drove. All he was getting was static. I tried using my mobile phone to call Alex first. I told him what happened and where I was going now with the officers but I got cut short as my mobile lost its signal. I glared at my phone and stuffed it back inside my pocket. My Swiss army knife was in the other alongside my handkerchief. Oddly enough, the radio went through when we were close to the turning point to the Wade's driveway.

In truth we weren't sure if they were even there. I was surprised to hear that the force withdrew from the location less than twelve hours after the bodies were found. What really made us think that the Wade's had gone back to their cabin was that the station had lost contact with the people they left there to guard.

"...request a team at the Wade's place over..." I managed to hear my uncle say.
"We're sending a team now. Hang tight," said a blurry voice from the radio. My uncle sighed in relief and looked at me.

"You're wearing you mother's locket," Uncle said quietly. I looked out the window trying to avoid his gaze.
"Maybe we should drop you off at the Millers," he said to me. I had enough arguments to shut him up but I didn't have to when I noticed a familiar red CR-V parked near the turning point.

Paul grumbled something under his breath as Alex got down the car with a bag slung over his shoulder. He was wearing a leather jacket and he looked totally badass. I couldn't even see the shadow of his timid self. He had no choice but to slow as Alex put himself in the driveway. Uncle rolled down his window to speak with him.

"What're you doing here son? This is police business," he said to Alex with authority.
"Then how come Louis gets to go?" Alex countered.
"He isn't. We're going to drop him off at your house!" Paul shouted obviously aggravated.
"No dice," Alex said heated. "I'm coming to and you can get off our property if you say otherwise."
We all raised our eyebrows at that. I guess none of us was aware that they owned the forest.
"You're bluffing," Paul said, his eyes narrowing. "The forest is public property."
"Only because we make it public," Alex shot back. "Either let me come or you can't gain entrance."
"Son, you realize you can get arrested for obstruction of justice?" Uncle said calmly.
"I respect you Officer Brady, not your partner though," Alex said arrogantly, "I'm sure you don't want to debate this with me while an innocent girl gets slaughtered. Do you?"

I was now sure Alex was bluffing. He would never let anything bad happen to me or Dinah. He wouldn't act so coldheartedly for the sake of pride. But the officers didn't and I wasn't telling them. I saw their mouths press into a hard line and nodded. Alex smiled smugly and got in the car with me. I winked at him knowingly which he returned. For a brief moment I saw a glint in his eyes that made me think that this was the façade and the one showed me and Dinah was the real him. I didn't realize I was secretly wondering which Alex was real until now.

"Where're your bodyguards, kid?" My uncle asked in a conversational tone.
"I didn't tell them I was going out," he answered still smug. My uncle shook his head and muttered something that sounded like 'brats'.

We drove slowly through the path in the forest. The car's thrumming removed the element of surprise. Walking was out of the case because the "suspects might have trained guard animals scattered across the forest", as my uncle so poetically put it for the guy on the radio. I was more afraid of what they, themselves, could do to us. The road was one-way and I was sure their pick-up could easily crush the Corolla. If they go werewolf on us they could easily tear up our car and eat us up. The only thing silver that we had was my locket and Alex's necklace. We weren't even sure the werewolves were affected by silver. The ones from Twilight weren't.

For the record, the werewolves in Twilight weren't even werewolves, they were shapeshifters, but the story is great! Almost completely unpredictable!
