The air was humid and the dark sky threatened to unleash its fury any minute. I glanced up at it and with a shaky hand reached inside the mailbox. It was not a lot of mail, but more than enough that I would have enough time to look through it while I was still at the box, no matter how desperately I had wanted to. I pulled out the five envelopes and looked through them, only to see five boring bills for my father. My heart dropped, it has been a week now, and still no letter from that stupid school, I applied or a dance school a week ago and it said I was supposed to get the letter 2 days ago.

The first few droplets of rain dripped onto my shoulders, running down, the coldness of the water felt well on my hot skin. I was about to shut the door to the mailbox when a letter crammed in the back caught my eye. As I pulled out the thing my heart was beating fast, and I was starting to shake. When I pulled it all the way out, it was from the school. I dropped all the other things in my hand including, my phone, purse, and the other things. As I ripped open the letter, I held my breath, hoping to read that I would get in.

As my thumbnail ripped across the ending of the paper, I bit my lip. My trembles went through my hands, to my long, white fingers.

Dear Adeline Johnson,

We are happy to tell you have been…

That is all I needed to read to know I’ve been accepted into the best dance school in the world, well in my opinion. I jumped in excitement as the rain pelted down onto my skin harder, and harder. I suddenly remembered the stuff on the ground and bent down to pick it all up. I grabbed the envelopes and put them in my purse, along with my phone.

I leaned over and grabbed the groceries off the sidewalk. I clutched my acceptance letter with my left hand, and the other stuff hung around my right arm as I walked up the steps to the house.

I live with my dad seeing as if my mom lives in Canada, and I do not want to live there. As I neared the door, I dug my house key out of my pocket. I put it into the thing, unlocking it and putting the key onto the key rack.

“Dad I’m back!” I called out as I went by his office. My dad works from the house, doing different things for lawyers and judges. We are not really rich, but better than others are, and I love it. I can get what I want but do not ask for a lot.

“Ok sweety,” He said back. I went to the kitchen and set the bags on the table, digging the letters out of my purse for dad to take care of. I dried off one of them as I walked down the hall into his office. He turned his big chair towards me and smiled.

“These are for you daddy,” I said handing him the bills. “Oh, and read this first,” I smiled, handing him my acceptance letter. He unfolded it with his large hands, and a smile breaking loose on his face.

“Oh goodness Ads, I’m so proud of you!” he yelled getting out of his chair and hugging me. I hugged back and pulled away to see his smile still plastered onto his face. “My little Adeline is all grown up, going to this new school.” He said, with small smile.
