Jumping Shadows

Prologue


    In a small city, lies thousands of busy workers, families, friends, mothers, and children. In this city, the people walk, not realizing their world in front of them. Not even wondering what the government is making. A young girl, though, can sense a fear that causes her dog to growl under his breath as he looks up at the sky.
    “What’s wrong Scruff” she knelt down by his side, following his eyes up to the sky. Somehow, on this clear, summer day, dark thunder clouds cover the blue skies. The wind begins to blow powerfully as Goosebumps surge her bare arms. She slowly stands up, watching as the only source of heat is blocked, filling the rest of the air with a fearful chill.
    Other citizens stop their walking and their business to watch the sky darken as well. Suddenly, the city grows silent. Lightning lights up the sky followed by thunder. A strange light is seen past the clouds, it wasn’t lightning, but something, as a missile some people think. Their theory was correct. The government had chosen a city for their new experiment, to see if what they created would work, but what the people or the government didn’t know, is that this experiment would very soon fail, turning night into a nightmare, and day, into horror.
    The missile lands into an abandoned building. Parts of the rocks and rubble fell down, missing the people that had dodged them. Mind as I say that this building was only four stories high.
    This missile did not explode, nor did it emit any type of toxic gas. Slowly, citizens of all shapes and ages crowd around the sight of this large mechanic that the government had sent them. Some take pictures with their cell phone or their cameras. Suddenly, a blatant sound came from inside the building. All the peoples attention stayed at the bottom of the building, where the old glass door was shattered from the impact.
    An eerie sound came closer and closer. The sound turned into a moan. Then a few moans were heard. The sun was down in an instant before this sound was heard. What the eyes saw coming out of the building, were figures of humans, or what they thought were humans. Some even greeted them to their city, thinking that they were an extraterrestrial being.
    A woman, the first one out of the building grabbed the kind mans hand, hastily pulling him towards her open mouth. Her broken teeth dug into his neck as the other strange creatures swarmed around him. The man cried out in pain from the many teeth digging into his body.
    The citizens coward in fear, with some running away. When the creatures were done with the man, they quickly met their gaze with the humans, and began to run to them. Some didn’t move, and were attacked. The ones that did move either escaped to somewhere safe, or were beaten in the race, and were eaten alive. In this city, terror rose. The people that were eaten had quickly turned into the creatures, now named the Cadaverous.
    News spread quickly through the country. Soon enough, it hit the world. The targeted city placed a barrier around the city so that the Cadaverous wouldn’t escape to infect the rest of the world. More and more of the town gets eaten away. The rest that survive, either stay as a team, or try to live themselves. This is the new life of that dog and its owner. Julia.
