As I ascended up the Stark tower I could hear fighting going on above my head. This only spurred me on, running and jumping up the stairs faster.

"Puny God!" Was all I could hear, and it was repeated over and over again. It was Hulks voice, and presumably Loki was the one being beaten. I reached the top penthouse, out of breath and gasping for air. Hulk was nowhere to be seen, and Loki was laying motionless on the floor. I slowly walked up to him and knelt down beside him. It was not until then I realised that it was not Loki on the floor, but a projection. I immediately stood up as the Loki on the floor disappeared and twenty more surrounded me.

"Loki please. Stop this, I can not do this anymore." I called out sternly. My head was so messed up I could not tell which was the real Loki. One by one they each lunged at me. Loki had grown stronger, his projections could now be solid, feel and fight. The first few had no weapons and it was a simple hand to hand combat.

"Why did you have to make everything so difficult Liara? This world could have been ours, a proper place for Deus to grow up." Loki's voice echoed around the room.

"For the last time, my son will not be used for a reason for your villainy!" I said whilst still fighting his minions. Soon some of them began to pick up strewn about arrows left on the floor from both Hawk eye and Loki's army.

"I thought you loved me!" He screamed out. I was to busy fighting to show any visual emotion to this.

"I do love you Loki." I called back.

"Then why did you choose Thor's side? Why him over me?" I thought I had already answered this question.

"Loki, I had to do what was right! What you are doing is not right. Just come home. Stop this now!" My throat was soar from all the shouting but Loki still refused to let slip which illusion he was.

"Come home? So that they can lock me up, execute me, keep me as a pet?" He called out in a deranged manor.

"Loki you know that would never happen, we all love you. Please just stop it and come home." I pleaded but he kept on poking around, both of us getting angrier.

"I find that very hard to believe. Maybe I should go back to Asgard? Maybe I can over throw the All father and rule the kingdom with my son by my side."

"Loki!" I cried out. "Enough. Is. Enough!"

I stopped immediately with an indignant gasp. A sharp shooting pain injected through the side of my chest, causing my eyes to widen in terror and my mouth to fall slightly open. Everything went silent until all I could hear was my own short breaths. Each one I took gave me a jolting pain. My eyes glanced down to the arrow now embedded deep in my side. They then trailed up the arm of the beholder until my eyes fell on Loki, the real Loki. All the other projections vanished until only he was left but he was frozen, as if in animated status. His eyes glistened with tears and his bottom lip quivered. I let out a pained whimper as I collapsed backwards. Loki followed me down so that his knees caught my head. The pain was now spreading, flooding to every nerve in my body.

"Liara...?" Loki cried softly. Tears were now streaming down his face. His hand grabbed for the arrow in my side but I swiftly stopped him.

"No..." I whispered slowly. My breath was quickly leaving me and I had not much energy.

"I have to save you!" Loki frantically tried to get the arrow. I brought my hand up to his cold face, stopping him in his tracks.

"It's too late." Loki's face fell and he began to weep.

"You can't die, I love you." He wailed cupping my face.

"And I you.." I struggled to say, breathing sharply. Loki gently laid his lips on mine, kissing me tenderly. My own tears started to brim in my eyes. I could feel his cold body once again, but it was shaking.

"Please, do not...cry. Just hold me...please." I wheezed. He looked at me once more with shocked eyes. His arms rapped around me and he began to gently cradle my broken body.

"I have stabbed you...abused you." He responded in a surprised tone. I just shook my head, I had not the energy to speak anymore. "Liara I meant nothing I said before. I would never use our son in such a way. You have to pull through this. We need to be a family, just think of the three of us. You, me and Deus. We could go to the forest, we would bother nobody. We would wake up in the morning and Deus would jump on the bed and snuggle in-between us. He needs his mother to be there. You need to be there for his first words, first steps...you just have to make it." He sobbed, tears falling onto my broken body.

"Loki, it is over you must..." Thor came in booming but his voice soon grew quiet. The rest of the Avengers soon wondered in, but also in silence.

"What have you done?" Thor asked viciously pushing his brother out of the way. He at once spotted the arrow rooted in me. "Liara no.." He whispered falling to his knees.

"It's ok Thor." I managed to say trying to comfort him. He was not crying but his distress was clear.

"No, no, NO! Tony, Steve, do something!" He cried out and at once they obeyed. They both came over to me looking at my injuries. Tony pulled out the arrow making me wince in pain, Steve then applied pressure. Tony pulled out some electronically controlled device and waved it over my wound.

"Well, come on Jarvis!" Tony shouted at the device after a few seconds of silence. There was no reply.   They suddenly both stopped once they had a clear look at the depth of the wound. They looked at each other with sad eyes.

"Well?" Thor shouted expectantly. Steve kick some debris angrily, sending it flying threw the window and through the next building.

"There is nothing we can do. The wound is too deep." Tony said quietly. "She has lost to much blood. I am sorry." He whispered. I gently nodded at him, letting him know it was okay. Thor's anger rose.

"No you must be wrong, there has to be something, she can't die!" He screamed at his friends.

"Thor, they are right, I can not hold on much longer." I sighed. Thor's eyes fell on Loki and the anger within him was evident.

"You, you did this to her. How could you, your own wife? The woman who gave birth to your son! The only person who ever forgave you and stuck up for you on Asgard." Thor screamed.

"Thor!" I cried out grabbing his hand. For the first time in my life I could see his eyes fill with tears. "Promise me..." I gasped, feeling my end was coming. Thor looked at me with pleading eyes.

"Promise me you will look after them." I spat out, my chest aching with every breath. I could feel my ribcage tightening around my already frail chest.

"Of course." He unwontedly replied.

"Both of them, Deus and Loki." I insisted. I could see the anger and confusion on his face but the pain was increasing. "Promise!" I cried out squeezing his hand. He nodded softly as a tear swept down his cheek. Loki now came up to me, stroking my head, whimpering softly to himself. His fingers traced over the necklace he had given me, now it was all spotted with red blood. My mouth was drying up, I had not long for this world. My thoughts were on my son. I wish I could just see him, one more time. Loki's eyes refused to meet mine, so with the last of my strength I gently pushed his face to me so our eyes met for one last time before I died.

"Loki, I...I..." I closed my eyes, I was so tired now and I could not hold on. My body grew limp and I had no feeling anymore, no more pain.

"Liara? Liara? Come on you have to stay with me, don't leave me! I need you! I love you so, so much! I can't imagine life without you. Please..." I could hear Loki sobbing and desperately trying to get me to wake up. I flickered my eyelids open and saw his distressed face and I felt all my life slowly leave me, darkness cloaking my sight and the image of Loki's saddened face drew further and further away until only darkness remained.
