We ran for what seemed like forever until we were far enough from the city so we wouldn't be discovered.

"You Fell, too?" he panted.

"Yeah," I sat down to catch my breath. "There were a lot after you,"

"Oh, no!" he wailed. "I never wanted this to happen!" he put his head in his hands.

"Yeah, well it did," I said a little bitterly, but then I had an awful thought. "What about your... wings?"

Lucifer gave me a sorrowful look and shrugged his jacket and shirt off. His wings unfurled to show glittering ebony feathers like mine, but something on his right wing caught my eye. I stood up and stroked a patch of white that was attached to his wing. I squeezed my eyes shut, realizing he had sewn on a few feathers that used to belong to his white wing. I shivered at the thought of doing the same to my wing. The process of wings going from white to black was painful enough, why in the world would he want to put himself through more pain by sewing on some of his old feathers?

"To remind me of what I have lost forever," he whispered, as if reading my mind.

"It's alright," I tried to comfort him. "Mine are black, too." I took off my jacket and unfolded my wings like Lucifer had.

"Do you know how many Fell, Glasyalabolas?"

"Too many," I shook my head sadly. "At least 7,000."

"When did you Fall?" he looked shocked.

"Yesterday. Well, I landed on Earth yesterday, I don't know how many decades ago I actually Fell from Heaven."

Lucifer nodded in understanding. "Well, at least we have each other," he managed a small smile.

"Yeah, I have the original Fallen angel with me," I rolled my eyes, but I was smiling too.

We both jumped about a foot in the air when we heard the bushes behind us rustle. Lucifer and I quickly put on our jackets and he pulled his shirt on. We turned and saw two men sporting navy blue uniforms push through them. As they exited the underbrush, I discerned the men as police.

"Are you two alright?" one of them asked in a gruff voice. I giggled as I realized Lucifer had put his shirt on backwards.

"Yes, sir," Lucifer said to them respectfully, but cast me a funny look.

"What happened, officer?" I asked meekly after I had composed myself.

"Terrorists ran into the Twin Towers and Pentagon. Killed a lot of people."

"That's awful," I murmured. Where was the Almighty? Why didn't He help these people?

"Very," he replied. "What are you two doing out here in the woods?"

"We were trying to get away from the commotion. Would it be okay for us to go back into the city?" I inquired.

"I would say it'd be a better idea if you went somewhere else until this all clears up. Do you have a relative nearby or a friend to stay with?" the other officer suggested.

"Yeah, I do. Thank you, officers," I replied. Lucifer nodded to them and we started through the woods.

"Where is it that you are planning on going to? We don't know anyone around here," Lucifer said.

"Oh, yes, I do. I just hope they'll take us in," I said.

"Really? Who do you know?" he asked.

"Two people. One's Carla and the other is Brent. They found me after I Fell. I don't know exactly where they are, but I'm sure we'll be able to find them," I told him.
