She felt as if someone's eyes were bearing down on her, like lasers burning the floor beside her feet.
As the girl walked slowly, while pacing herself, the wind started to blow harder, and harder lifting sand up, and blowing it against her legs.
Suddenly, the young girl heard a noise behind her, soft and faint.
She didn't dare to turn round; in case she saw was something she’d wish she had never seen.
The noise behind her kept growing louder. She was so tempted to turn around, but she knew the she couldn't.
She started walking a little bit faster, trying to get away, until soon, she was jogging, no running down the beach, kicking sand up behind her.
The sound kept following her, no matter how much she ran. She stopped to catch her breath, and while she lifted her head she caught sight of an old lady sitting by a rock which was about half a mile away. The woman didn't seem to be moving.
"Hello?" She shouted.
"Hello?!!" The girl shouted louder.
The old lady didn't even look up.
At this point she was starting to get worried... really worried…
She started running towards this old lady, shouting for a third time "Hello?”
Once again there came no answer and no sign of life from the old lady. The sound she was hearing before seemed to be moving even closer to her. She started to tremble now, moving faster forwards, towards the strange old lady; while trying to run away from the terrible noise behind her. It wasn't working. With every step she took, the lady seemed to be another metre away and the noise was getting louder and louder.
"This is hopeless." she thought to herself. She decided to turn around but kept her eyes closed in the fear of what she was about to see. And then, she gained the courage she so desperately needed. She opened her eyes.
And she finally saw it.
She saw what and where the noise was coming from and it was beyond her imagination of what she thought it would be. She saw, herself.
How could this be possible?
Seeing yourself only happens when you’re looking into a reflection. But this… this thing, was beyond any reflection, for it didn't copy any movements she was doing. Although though it did have the same puzzled look as the girl.
It seemed to have a mind of its own, moving and looking and shaking its head in disbelief, when the girl only stared at it. She decided to go and touch her… her "reflection" when it started to move backwards and then it vanished, just like that, leaving nothing but a thousand sand particles to fall on to the ground.
"This is just impossible", she whispered to herself.
She turned around to check if the old lady was still sitting on that rock, only to see that she was much, much further away than she remembered her being before and that she was still moving away, along with the rest of the world. Everything around her was abandoning her, leaving her with nothing but empty blackness. The world was moving away, faster and faster and then… It was gone. The world had left her leaving her to stare into pure blackness. And as she looked at what she thought were her feet, the surface that was holding the girl vanished, and she began to fall.
Deeper and deeper and deeper, she fell into the black hole, gaining speed as she went. After what seemed like hours of falling she could finally see a slant of white yellowish light, becoming brighter and larger as she fell. Then when it became clear enough to see what it was, she suddenly realized that she was about to fall onto a white floor. Now she was falling at what seemed like light speed and just before she was about to hit the ground, and see her life end before her, she closed her eyes, keeping them tight shut. She opened her eyes again when she felt no pain and found herself lying in her bed and sweating.
"It was all just a nightmare," The young teen whispered to herself, "another one of my nightmares!" She lay back down; staring at the ceiling.
She couldn't go back to sleep! Afraid she would start dreaming (well having nightmare's) again.
