This is one of the greatest things I've ever seen, and I just had to share it with you.

http://mashable.com/2015/06/11/female-scientists-responses-tim-hunt-distractinglysexy/ (linked to in the EXTERNAL LINK, or just google "16 on-point responses from female scientists to Nobel winner's sexist comments")

So what happened was this dumbf*** noble prize winner, Tim Hunt, stated:

"trouble with girls is they fall in love with you, you fall in love with them and that then when they're criticised, they cry."

*exasperated sigh*

So the article highlights a few glorious responses from the female scientific community. :) READ IT! You can also search the #distractinglysexy hashtag. It's hilarious and wonderful.

So why I'm linking to this in the writing guide is because so many stories portray women as Tim Hunt's statement. Girls are only there for romance and they cry a lot. Chick flicks play on this a little too much too *points to the SNL Black Widow skit*

When you look at the responses to Hunt's stupid statement, you see strong, interesting women! You see women who are interested in something other than men. Women who have goals other than men. Women who are smart and funny and motivated and confident—the complete opposite of what Hunt stated. They're not just sex in a dress who cry and whine a lot. They're interesting, multi-faceted human beings.

When you write your female characters, please shy away from the Hunt woman. Write the interesting characters. The ones who aren't just inserted in the story to fall in love with the men and then cry a lot when something happens.
