Keep you in the dark, you know they all pretend

Two months ago

That annoying alarm was at it again. I opened my eyes to see that it was 10:40AM. Oh my God. I am super late for school. Ah well too late to go now. I flopped back down onto my bed and closed my eyes, but never went to sleep.

"Come on Echo, get up." The obnoxious voice of my twin brother whined, jumping on my bed. I mean, for God sake's, he was seventeen years old.

"Piss off Thunder, I'm busy," I replied in an angry yet tired voice. Okay it was a total lie, but still, it was worth a shot. He kept bouncing around on my queen-sized bed singing a song that relates to his annoying personality.

"And why aren't you at school?" I asked after a moment of silence.

"Because..."

"Ugh! Thunder!" The fraternal twins. One hot and one cold. We were total opposites, more different than one would like to think. In a way, I'm happy about this fact as I have a chance to be my own person rather than a half of one. However, our differences didn't stop up from being close, a little too close sometimes.

There was only one thing that linked my brother and I together and that was our ability to shift into wolves, well, I could shed into a wolf where as my brother only turned half human, half wolf. I lost myself to the animal in me a few years back and since then I could only change into a wolf.

Our dad carried the gene of the werewolf, he was the one that had taught us the way of the wolf. How to control our animal side, how to put up a front that we were not beasts but friendly humans.

"Echo, have you gone back to sleep again?" Thunder's voice reached my ears as I rolled around on my bed. I opened my eyes to glare at the gangly male, stood above me before shoving his legs from my bed.

"Get out."

Thunder glared at me but backed out of the room, his back facing the closed door. I started chuckling when he banged into it. I burst out laughing when he bounced back on to the floor, to make it better dad came rushing in -banging Thunder's head in the process- with a panic look in his eyes.

His brown eyes swept across the room, past me and they landed on my brother who was groaning holding his head in both of his hand, his eyes scrunched up in pain as he curled up on the floor.

"Thunder, what are you doing on the floor?" Dad questioned him with an eyebrow raised.

Thunder looked up at him with a glare.

"Oh you know just checking to see if it's feeling alright," He replied sarcastically. I chuckled getting up and walking to my wardrobe. I heard light foot steps coming up the stairs and I turned around to see Zealous at the doorway watching me with excited eyes. He was waiting for the go to pounce on me.

"Baby," I squealed and  patted my chest twice and that's when he came pouncing on me, literally knocking me off my feet. He stood on top of me, licking my face to death whilst I squeaked enjoying the affection.

Suddenly his weight disappeared and I opened my eyes to see Thunder and Zealous brawling around on the floor while dad was sat on the bed browsing through one of my books.

It was just the four of us now, for twelve years. Ever since our mum died in a tragic house fire we have been moving around since. Me, my brother, my dog and my dad.

"Echo, I have to go to work and your brother is going to one of his friend's house. I want you to look after the house and Zealous. Okay?" Dad informed me. I nodded back at him. "Right then. We'll see you soon. Bye sweetie," He said and kissed me on the head.
