The faint sound of police sirens went off in the distance. It took us a moment but both I and Taylor snapped out of whatever trance we were in and took off in the other direction. Taylor, my best friend was just a few steps ahead of me and quickly began to disappearin the horizon. We kept running as the sound of police cars rounded the near-by corner. I picked up speed, and ran down the abandoned night street.
"Slow down!" I yelled, as she left me behind. I quickly looked behind me to see police lights illuminate the dark alley.
"Either run faster or I will leave you behind!" She growled. You'd think since she was my best friend, she'd be concerned whether I'd get caught or not. I glanced behind me just as a cop car came into view. I ran faster and was at her side in no time. I wasn't running out of energy just yet. I could still hear the police cars chasing us. Taylor was clutching on to the backpack full of stolen property. By now we hadn't been caught, so the police guys had called for back-up. Now we had five cop cars on our tails and no way out. As Taylor and I rounded the corner three cop cars were parked on the street blocking our way out.
"Crap! We're caught!" Taylor and I said in unison.
"Give it up. You two." Shouted one of the cops from his car. I looked over at Taylor hoping she would find some way to get us out of this whole mess.
"You're on your own, solider." Taylor whispered soluting before darting down an alley. In seconds, police were on her tail. I stood there stunned, not knowing what to do. I should have taken her lead and bolted the other directions. If watching television has taught me something, its that there is no way bad guys get caught when that split up. However, no matter what my brain said, my body wouldn't function, so I stood there, frozen, in front of cops.
I was definitely busted.
"Get in the car, kiddo." One of the friendly cops came over to me. He placed a hand on my shoulder, shoving me into the car. Well this is just great.
Once we got into the station one of the cops wrote down my information and took my mug shot. She didn't look too happy to have to deal with me at this time in the night. Trust me, I wasn't too happy she had to deal with me either, I shouldn't even be here. If it hadn't been for Taylor wanted to do something more exciting tonight, we- I mean I wouldn't have gotten arrested.
"Okay lets go." The officer grabbed a hold of my shirt and pushed me down a hall way. "You have one phone call. ." She walked me over to a phone hooked on the wall. "Make it quick" I knew exactly who I was going to call.
After a few rings her voicemail picked up. "I don't care how you do it, you get me out of here!" I growled into the phone before slamming it back down on the hook. The officer grabbed my shirt again and led me further down the hall way. Grabbing my shirt was totally unnecessary, its not like I would try to escape. She shoved me into a cell and walked away.
As soon as I made sure she couldn't hear me, I yelled. "THAT WAS TOTALLY UNNECESSARY!" I groaned looking around the horrible place I was in. This cell consisted of a bench that was falling apart in one corner and a toilet that I'm sure was infected with all types of germs in the other.
"First time here Princess?" A voice chuckled. I turned to see a fairly handsome guy sitting casually in the cell next to mine. How could someone feel so comfortable around here? I thought to myself. Of course I was aware that that was a stupid question, the only kind people that could feel comfortable in a cage were probably criminals.
"No, I'm always in here!" Sarcasm dripped from my words. I rolled my eyes walking over to the bench but I made the mistake of sitting on it, as soon as I connected my butt with it it collapsed. I shrieked pushing myself off the filthy floor.
"Now I know you're new" The guy next to me said in between laughs, "Everyone knows that cell bench is broken."
"Anything else I should know?" I walked over to the bars the divided my cell and his.
"Don't use the toilet?" He offered, I just rolled my eyes. Ignoring how hard he was trying to make a humorous situation out of this.
"Thanks." I looked around the cell for something to do or possibly keep me entertained. Where was Taylor? I had called her a long time ago! I was becoming impatient and began to pace around the small space that I had been provided with. This is not an acceptable living condition!
