I'm not ready

I'm not ready
To watch you go
To say goodbye
One last time

I'm not ready
To be strong
To be alone
Once you're gone

I'm not ready
I thought I was
But I need you
More than I can say

I'm not ready
I am scared
I feel selfish
Begging you to stay

I'm not ready
I'm still a child
Who once held you
A lifetime ago

I'm not ready
I don't know
How to help you
How to move on

I'm not ready
I won't ever be
But if I move on
Please forgive me

Artist's statement:
I wrote this piece several weeks ago, but did not have the strength to post it until today. The picture above is of my dog Jack who just passed on the 27th. I wrote this when I found out that he was very sick and probably would not last the summer. He was my baby boy and I am heartbroken that he is no longer with me and my family. Today we received his ashes, and I thought I was doing okay. Today was the first time I cried since I lost him. And I am lost without him.
