WattPad Clichés Part 2

FanFictions and Things To Avoid

Part 1) Things to Avoid

- - - "Somehow"

a) "There was a different glint in his eyes, that somehow scared me…"

b) "The way he said that shocked me, somehow."

You are the writer, it's not like you're writing about your life, (although you might be…) but you can write what you want. You don't have to ask yourself, "How did this affect her?" because you, Writer, decide. I understand sometimes this is required but you can put in;

a) "… Was it because …" "… from the way he looked at me…" , etc.

b) "The way he said that shocked me, for I felt my heart flutter, beating at a rapid pace, as he waited for my response."

- - - Lyrics

If the lyrics have any reference to the story, include the few lines that really mean something, instead of making us look through it.

However, that is usually not the case, and I find that people put it there to make their story seem longer. I personally, hate the current pop-music that is circling our generation, and I don't enjoy music much anymore. Example; I was reading a story, when a girl got in-to a car and turned on the radio. Fine, right? And then the next page was the author posting the lyrics, which had no point to the story.

Lyrics also screw up the flow of the story, messing up the circulation of your words, by adding in someone else's.

- - - "Stuff"

Stuff covers so many things, it's awful to put it in a story. It could be a nuclear bomb, or a cat. One of my teachers always yelled at me when I wrote "Stuff" in work, so I hate it now. (Un-less the character is saying "Stuff" instead of actually answering something, etc.)

- - - Points Of View

Stories are meant to be mysterious. Interesting. "What's going to happen next?" I find this to be my favourite part, all books are Mysteries because you're wondering what's going to happen! But when the P.O.V. changes constantly, and you get every side of the story, every part, all you are doing through the story (well, at-least I find myself) is thinking, "HEY! You, protagonist! You see that guy? HE WANTS IN YOUR PANTS! And his plan is working! Watch-out!"

Part 2) Editing

I wrote a bit about this in my previous, but I'm going in-to more detail now.

If you're not that good at grammar, or things of that sort - get an Editor! So many people on WattPad aren't there to write, but edit. If you're having trouble finding some, put out a "Wanted" story for an editor - or maybe in the comments of another story of someone who gets more views then you. Editors are very good because they are not Trolls. They don't yell at your like some commentators who are trying to help. They are (usually, I hope you have a good editor) understanding and will read through your story with your best interest in mind for a better story.

I feel compelled to add I love to edit.

And if you don't edit your work because you are too LAZY to, and add that at the ending, I hate you. If you don't put your best foot forewords, no-body will enjoy your story. This is your work, your writing, and you're putting it to the public without making sure it's GOOD!? Revise, revise, and revise before readers think you're short a few IQ points.

Part 3) Unique Ideas

I can't stress how much this is important. For new ideas. Enough of the player guy and girl! Enough of the new addicting of the player girl! What is with the players? I mean, is that all everyone thinks of?

Enough of the blonde bitches (although I did visit America a bit back and to be truly honest it hurt my eyes how many blondes were there, and every time I ordered something, they were way too nice (I'm Canadian if you care.))

Enough of that "Perfect" best-friend that the "Loser" has. I have no problems like that, but every story they have one or two friends they get along perfectly with. Not everyone does. People have multiple types of friends, and each has their own thing that makes you like them. (Some people do, but they're overrated in WattPad).

And enough with hot guys. Why can't the nice, sweet, cute guys get anything? And the player, hot, cruel guy does? Oh right, because he's "Hot-er" and "Changes". Why not go for something that is already Hot, on the INSIDE! Where it counts! And doesn't have to change?!

Now, I personally, know that many stories are much better when romance is involved. But WattPad is all about romance. Why is that? Why can't a story function properly without lovey-dovey? Now, don't get me wrong, romance is a great add-on to ANY story, but it is way overdone in many of these stories.

~

I'm tempted to add how to comment, without being a troll. Might make that in a 3rd.
