Chapter 2

“People, move it!” I snapped, pushing through a group of security guards, standing like idiots by the doors. I spared them a glare and ran – at a humanly speed – towards Kevin, who was standing with a bunch of men in blue police suits.

“What the hell is going on?” I asked, or more demanded for an answer, Kevin glanced my way, his eyes clouded, and his face seemed frustrated making him look older than he was. He ran a hand through his hair with a hand on his hip.

“I have no damn clue; I just got here – from what Grace told me over the phone it doesn’t sound good.”

I groaned, glancing around trying to look for familiar faces.  The front lobby of the forensics building was packed with police officers, and some men in black and mate brown suits, who I can only guess where detectives. I could feel my frustration growing, I needed to find Cary.

Walking away from Kevin and his group I made my way towards the staircase. I glanced back, making sure no one was watching. I slipped through the door, going full speed up the staircase to the third floor. I yanked the door open and walked as fast as I could towards the morgue. The third floor was completely deserted, and silent compared to the buzz downstairs, I furrowed my eyebrows in slight confusion. Weren’t the idiots downstairs suppose to be up here, investigating?

The sound of my flat boots hitting the tiled floor was the only sound I could hear. Every step I took towards the morgue, my heart would beat slightly faster, but not of fear but excitement? I wasn’t really sure why, but for some reason I felt like something was happening, something that was going to interest me very much.

I opened the thick metal doors, entering the morgue. I walked past Amanda’s desk, straight to the autopsy room. As I opened the door a sudden chill went up my spin, I took in a sharp intake of breath, and went in. The room was intact, and still had the same stench of blood and rotten skin. Cary and Grace were both around the metal table that held Monroe’s body hours before and it looked like his body was the only one taken from the room.

Both Cary and Grace looked up when I entered, I walked up to them. Grace had rubber gloves on with a finger print duster on one hand and white finger print powder in the other. Cary had a camera around her neck, in her hands.

“What do we have?” I asked, while both women straightened up and glanced at each other.

Cary, let out a loud sigh, “Well for starters we only found out that the body was missing about thirty minutes ago – a few minutes before I phoned you.”

I nodded in understanding.

Cary continued, “To my estimation, the body was taken about… two hours tops – before we found out.”

“Looks like who ever took the body was smart.” Grace said, dusting a side of the metal table, I noticed that on side of the metal table had the white powder showing no signs of finger prints.

“Didn’t leave any finger prints.” I stated more than asked walking around the metallic table, eyeing it carefully. I took in a deep breath and closed my eyes, opening it again. Right now, I could see almost every dust particle in the air. Another advantage of being a Pure Blood, I had good and sensitive eyesight, which I could switch on and off when I wanted to.

“Not even a hair, nothing – nada, zilch,” Cary said, her forehead wrinkled in thought, “It’s as if it magically floated out of here.”

My head snapped Cary’s way, my eye sight turning back to normal; Grace snorted and shook her head, “If only it could magically return – now, that would be nice.”
