Epilogue

The date of the wedding was set for August 2nd and preparations were being made. Everytime I realized that all this wasn't a dream I had to scream; it was just too good to be true.

When Abby found out you could have sworn that she had just won the lottery with the way she was screaming in excitment. We even stayed up all night talking about how great it would be and how often she would visit. We also joked about Richard having some rich cousin that he simply and conveniently forgot to mention.

The hardest part was telling my mother. As far as she was concerned nothing good would ever happen to me. My heart pounded furiously as I walked into mom's house. Okay how was I going to do this? Hm . . . Entering the livingroom I saw mom staring at me from across the room with an icy stare. Had something happened . . .? After taking in the atmosphere I became relieved that I had left Kalie back at the Manor there was something up.

"Mom . . ."

"So now you're getting married?"

I gave her a puzzled yet shocked look. How did she know that? I specifically asked everyone to allow me to tell her. . . Kalie. I sighed. "Mom I planned to tell you-"

"When exactly because you know I heard that you already have a date set and a place picked out as well as a guest list- where in that can you find tell mother that -"

"Mom can you just stop! Christ!" She looked at me with bulging eyes. I wasn't going to put up with her crap on a day when I'm supposed to sharing good news with her. I took a deep breath to calm myself. "I came over here to you personally because I wanted to be the one to tell you. I'm sorry that you had to hear from your darling granddaughter first but I had the intenetion of being the first to tell you." She continued staring at me for a while longer without saying anything. "Mom . . ."

"Are you marrying that Richard person?"

"Yes mother, he is the man I love."

"I thought you loved Charles." She said, raising an eyebrow questioningly. That sentence cut deep and she knew it. Ofcourse I loved Charlie and in some ways I loved him more than Richard but he was gone and I was finally ready to get on with life. I was happy with Richard and that should have been enough.

"Mom why can't you just be happy for me like any other mother would be if she found out that her only daughter was finally going to be happy again?" I snapped.

"How can I be happy when he's taking my baby away?"

"What . . .?" Was that really how she felt . .. ? "Mom no matter what-"

"Just leave, go, enjoy each other."

"Are you coming to my wedding? It's August 2nd, it's gonna be at the Manor."

"Get out!" She yelled. I looked into her eyes hoping my hurt was evident but she simply turned her back to me and waited for me to leave. I turned and left without another word. I couldn't believe that she really wasn't coming. I wanted-no I needed her there. We never really got along but she was my mother and that counted for alot. I felt the tears build up as I got back to my car but I quickly brushed them away. I was supposed to be done crying . . .my life was going to be happy . . .

When I got back to the Manor Richard was at the front door waiting for me. He extended his hand for me once he saw how upset I look.

"What happened?" He asked, pulling me to him.

"She's not coming." I mumbled into his chest. He began stroking my back as he brought me inside.

"Aw well don't worry about it too much, I'm sure she'll come around."
