Nick's POV

We had finally pulled out of the dock after what felt like forever. Wild Bill wanted to try out some new fishing grounds out quite away, so we naturally had nothing to do.

"Hey Bai!" I yelled walking out of my bunk.

"What could you possibly want?" She called from the kitchen.

"I'm so BORED." I said over dramatically.

"And you want me to do what?"

"Make me un-bored."

"Okay... uhm, do you still have that set of playing cards?"

"I never leave home without it!"

"Fine then, I whoop you in black jack."

"You're on!" I yelled, retrieving the cards.

We played 3 rounds and I only won one of them. I was beginning to think she was right against what my ego had been telling me - she was a Hillstrand, after all - when Zack came in from doing God-knows-what from out on the deck.

"What are you guys doing?"

"Winning epically" I said.

"You are not!" Bailey yelled. "I recall it being 2 to one" she said as she pointed to herself first, then me.

"Okay, whatever you say." I said playfully rolling my eyes.

Just then, Miles came out from our bunk. "Well, I'll have you know, I'll beat all three of you any day."

"Oh, really? Then why don't you just show us?" Bailey challenged.

Zack's POV

Miles and I sat down as Nick reshuffled the deck. We played a couple of rounds, and sure enough, Bailey won all of them.

"Damn Bailey, you're pretty decent" Miles said.

"Oh, now we're not so cocky" Bailey laughed.

"Hey, I'm always cocky. But you can't judge me if you don't even know me"

"Who said I was judging you?" Bailey asked, raising an eyebrow.

"He has a point though. Nick is the only one who actually knows you." I butted in, saving Miles from saying something he'd regret.

"That's right. Well then, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I've been crab fishing since I was 13, though my dad and uncles let me go with them since I was 9, so essentially 13 years. Uhm, I'm not girly. I love being outdoors, and have since I was little. The ocean is pretty much my life and I'd love to be a captain one day. That's about all of the major stuff."

"That's cool. I had no idea you wanted to be a captain." I replied.

"Oh yeah! I have since I was about 14. It's all I want to do in life. I want to be able to help carry on the Hillstrand legacy. It's just hard to find people who actually think a girl can become a skipper, so I don't usually tell people that right off of the bat."

"Well, I think having a lady captain in the fleet would be awesome." I said with a smile.

"Thanks! Now I just have to be able to actually make it." she laughed.

"Hey, are these.... Sparks?" Nick asked.

"What the hell are you talking about, Nick?" Bailey asked.

"You two. I'm sensing some sparks." Nick teased.

"Nick, stop being an idiot." I said.

"Yeah, we're just trying to get to know one another." Bailey said cooly.

"Sure that's what that was." Nick said, shooting Bailey a teasing look.

"Yes, it is." Bailey said, shooting a look back at him that said shut the hell up or I'll kill you.

We continued playing until it was time to set the pots. Miles went up to talk to my dad, and Bailey and Nick headed out. As I was putting my gear on, I overheard their conversation.

"Nick, what was that?" Bailey asked.

"I thought you liked him." Nick replied.

"Yeah, but I hardly know him."

"So? we're stuck on an 100 foot crab boat together. You're bound to get to know each other."

"Even so, it's a little fast. I don't want him to get freaked out. I am a Hillstrand. We've been known to scare members of the opposite sex off. Just let me handle it."

"Okay then."

What did I just hear?
