I write this gentle poem
To honour mother's day
Even though in recent years
My own has passed away
We do not really understand
As children with our needs
The way she cultivates our world
And clears out all the weeds
How she reaches in our hearts
And learns our special ways
So when the day becomes the night
Her love can shine its rays
Even when we're adults
We forget the things which matter
Like meeting her for coffee
Or calling for a natter
And what about the mothers
Who adopt kids as their own
Their love is more than priceless
For they give a heart a home
Your best friend is your mother
My mum would often say
That's why I hold her memory dear
Especially today
