Eyes of the Seer (The Void Between the Stars series, book 1)

Space; according to some, it is the final or ultimate frontier. But who can speak in terms of borders and boundaries about something which is so large, we can't see where it ends or begins, if it even does have an end or a beginning? Most of space is simply that; space. A pitch black void of nothingness, with the occasional solar system, gas cloud or asteroid field.

The void is not lifeless. Life can be found in the strangest of places; planets, moons, debris fields, the depths of space and some believe even in the unimaginable heat of the stars themselves. The Universe has spawned life all over itself, from the most basic single cell organisms to the most elaborately designed creatures. Most life exists on planets, but some of these life forms evolved to a point where they started to crave to explore the Great Void.

From the birth of the Universe, all solar systems are connected by subspace filaments. All galaxies are connected through similar intangible connections. With the proper tools, whether they are naturally evolved or constructed through technology, it is possible to traverse these connections, reaching even the most distant stars. In its billions of years of existence, the Universe has seen civilizations and empires rise and fall, some leaving a legacy behind, others fading into the night. This is how it has always been, this is how it will always be.

These are the stories from a specific galaxy, and a specific point in its history. The galaxy is called 'the Milky Way' by its inhabitants, the time is twelve hundred solar rotations after the first successful human venture into space; the year Yuri Gagarin was the first human who circled his planet from orbit. By this time, humanity has spread out across their galaxy, claiming their place amongst the hundreds of other space faring beings. Due to exposure to an array of different circumstances and their capability to easily adapt to different circumstances, the human race has evolved into a divers and numerous breed, found in even the most exotic and desolate locations.

These are the stories of some of these humans... exploring the Void between the stars.
