What Is a Hero?
My 9-year-old daughter came up to me yesterday and told me today she no longer wanted to do the science fair for school. She thought it wouldn’t be more than doing a simple experiment and having fun. The project was more work than she thought.
I asked her what the definition of a hero was. When she shrugged her shoulders I told her it was someone who hangs on when he or she would rather quit. I told her, “Go become a hero.” And she did, going back upstairs and researching her topic on the computer.
We’re not born heroes, we become them. This book is dedicated to my students, past, present and future, who have found or will find the hero in them.
