Mermates
Chapter 1:
An obnoxious buzz pierced the peace of my dreams. Quickly, I rushed to turn off my alarm,(which I had placed on the other side of the room to help me get up in the morning) pushed the button, and laid back down.
Some help that was.
Fifteen minutes later my mom called upstairs to wake me up. I groaned but slumped out of bed and over to my closet. I pulled out some khaki shorts, a dark blue t-shirt and looked myself over in the mirror. My brown, curly hair was sticking up at odd angles across the top of my head. I sighed and began to pull a brush through the snags and tangles. Once I was satisfied I scrutinized the rest of my appearance. Behind my black-framed glasses my amber-colored eyes looked exhausted. I absolutely HATE my glasses!! They make me look like a nerd, not to say that I'm not a nerd, I am, I just don't want to look like one. I put in my contact lenses and trudged downstairs for breakfast. I looked at the digital clock on the microwave and realized how late I was running. I grabbed my backpack and a poptart and said goodbye to my parents as I raced to the bus stop.
I arrived just in time.
I climbed onto the bus panting and sat down in the middle row of seats. Reaching into my backpack, I realized that I had forgotten my ipod. Sighing, I leaned back into the seat and stared out the window. My eyelids threatened to close every few seconds but I forced myself to not surrender to sleep. Finally, the brakes screeched in front of the school, I grabbed my stuff and trotted off to first period. The tardy bell had already rung so I was late, AGAIN!!
I opened the classroom door. Twenty-four pairs of eyes looked up, then, seeing as I was no one important, quickly averted their attention back to whatever they were previously doing. I was used to being ignored. It wasn't like I was picked on, people just generally don't notice me unless they are asking a question about the homework. I quietly muttered an apology to my teacher and took my seat in the second row. When the bell dismissing us from first period finally rang I hurried off to my favorite class, art.
I am not the best art student, but I like relaxing while I am drawing, plus, my two best (and only) friends were in that class.
Avery and Marisa.
"Hey Scarlett!!" they said in unison.
Marisa and Avery are twins, but you would not know by looking at them or even talking to them. Avery has reddish-brown hair and blue eyes while Marisa has black hair and green eyes. Their personalities are complete opposites too. Marisa is the social butterfly while Avery and I tend to keep mostly to ourselves.
"Hey guys," I replied sitting down next to them. Marisa began to ramble on about this new guy in her Algebra class while Avery and I, used to her babbling, tuned her out and began to sketch.
"Hellllloooo!!!" Marisa cried, "Is anyone listening to me?!"
"Nope." Avery and I replied. Marisa crossed her arms across her chest and pouted like a little kid. We rolled our eyes and continued sketching.
All too soon the bell rang signaling the beginning of third period, English. Marisa and Avery had classes around mine so we walked there together.
"Hey, do you guys wanna have a sleepover at my house tonight?" I asked. Avery and Marisa live three houses down and we have been close since kindergarten, so sleepovers are not a rare occurrence.
"Sure!!" they agreed enthusiastically.
"Okay, be at my house by eight and don't forget your swimsuits," I reminded them.
"We won't," the called rolling their eyes before we went our separate ways to our different classes.
The rest of that day drug on, until finally the final bell of the day released us from eight period. I raced home after getting off of the bus to prepare for our sleepover.
There are three things we must always have during our sleepovers:
1) Twizzlers
2) a childhood Disney movie, and...
3) A midnight swim.
I had set up a giant mixing bowl full of Twizzlers and was in the process if picking a Disney movie. After several rounds of ennie-mennie-minie-mo I decided on The Little Mermaid.
Ding dong.
I rushed to answer the door. I opened it revealing Michelle and Avery in their PJ's
"Let the sleepover begin!!"
