An attractive blonde woman walked into the room as Ross stopped laughing. The young girl immediately recognized her as the woman from the evening with her uncle’s acquaintance. Ross’ grin faltered a bit as she wondered what she was doing at Dr. Richard’s lab.

“Rosslyen, this is my fiancée Sue. She helps out every once in a while.”

“Fiancée? Who would marry you Dr. Richards? You aren’t that good with the ladies.”

“Rosslyen,” he said as he gave her a stern look. Sue on the other hand giggled.

“Yeah, Reed isn’t the best at communication but he’s a great guy.”

            “I wouldn’t know. But I think we’ve met before.”

            “Really? Where?”

“Weren’t you that idiot Von Doom’s date to that dumb event he was holding a few months back?”

“Yes, I was. Wait, you were the girl who poured champagne all over him, weren’t you?”

“That was me,” Ross said proudly. “The sleazebag deserved it. He had you and he had the audacity to flirt with me. I hate guys like that. What’s the point of having a pretty girl if you’re going to go after another?”

Another giggle escaped from Sue. “I have no idea but that chapter of my life is closed.”

“Yeah, I can see why you went for Dr. Richards. At least he won’t cheat on you, well at least not with a woman.”

“What do you mean?” Reed asked as the women were in a fit of laughs.

“If you can’t figure it out Mr. Genius then you don’t deserve to know,” Ross said.

Reed looked at the two before walking away, muttering about how he’d never understand the female brain.  Susan and Ross decided to get to know each other better, going on about family and life in general.

“Well, my folks died a few months back. I just have my uncle now.”

“I’m sorry to hear that. What happened?”

“You know that attack a few blocks down? They were there. That mad man, the metal one, killed them. They were on that bus he blew up,” Ross stated as tears streamed down her face. “I would have been with them but I wanted to go to Times Scare with a friend that night. I should have been with them.”

“Don’t say that Ross. You weren’t there for a reason. Besides, I think Henry would have been devastated if his favorite niece had died.”

“I know. Uncle Henry is great and all but I miss my parents. They were everything to me. My dad taught me all about computers and mom was always supportive of whatever I did, no matter how bad it was.”

“I’m sure Henry supports you. Plus, now you have an extended family. Although Reed won’t admit it, he likes you. You wouldn’t still be here if he didn’t.”

“Thanks Sue but I doubt Dr. Richards likes me. I did hack into the computer and remove all his files and although he doesn’t know it yet, I kind of sent a little thing down to Roberta. She won’t be the nicest receptionist for a while.”
