N.Y. to N.C.

Everyone has a life changing experience. It just happens, one minute everything is normally and then in a second your life is turned completely upside down. Dimitri Guardian was 29 years old. Born and raised in Russia he had moved to America on his 20th birthday and had started his own real-estate business. It started humbly, but soon was selling homes to the rich and famous movie stars, just as he had always hoped it would. He was steadily on his way to becoming the richest man in America, but that involved a lot of work. His life was consumed by work, that's all he ever had time to do.
It was a January 16, two months before his 30th birthday. Dimitri was traveling from his penthouse in New York to a mansion in North Carolina that he was trying to sell. He was tired. It had been a long time since he had taken any time off, he needed a break. He was thinking about visiting his family, but he knew what that would bring up, his mother was always bothering him about trite little things like starting a family, but Dimitri didn't have time for that. So he decided he would wait a little while longer, he would go in a couple weeks, anything to put off the conversation that he always dreaded.
It was just like any other business trip, just a plane ride away. He hated to fly. He didn't know why, he didn't mind heights, or anything like that, but flying...he just thought that if people were meant to fly God would've given us wings. He didn't have a choice though; it's pretty difficult to be a big real-estate salesman, traveling all around the world, without flying. So he would do what he always did, work. He brought his laptop and a couple of folders full of paperwork that would certainly keep him busy enough to forget that he was on a plane.
The plane took off and he went straight to work, but something felt wrong. He couldn't explain it, but it felt like...maybe...for once in his life he shouldn't be working. He closed his laptop just as the pilot came on the intercom, something was wrong.
It felt like time speed up, it all happened so quickly. He was going to die. All he could think about was how much time he had wasted on work...work, work, and work. He realized that, besides his business, he had nothing to show for himself. He wanted to change, but it looked like he wasn't going to get a chance to. He started to pray, it was something he hadn't done in a while and he hoped God wasn't mad...and that He would listen, he promised to change if he only got the opportunity to. God was listening. Dimitri as well as everyone else on that plane got off safely. Dimitri kept his promise; he sold his company, and went home to his family in Russia, where, to his mother great joy, he fell in love.
