“Annabelle get up!” My brother Zev whispered to me, his Black hair falling into his grey eyes. I looked at the clock, one o’clock in the freaking morning.
For years my brothers have been waking me up at strange times just to bring me halfway across America.
“Again? Why?” I whined.
“Anna, you know were protecting you. He’s close by.” Vex whispered to me.
“I never even met him; I don’t even know what you’re protecting me from? Why can’t we just join a pack like normal werewolf families?” I said frowning. That’s right, were werewolves. Don’t hate.
“Annabelle, not now, he’s here.” Johnny whispered his blue eyes full of fear. I heard a loud crash downstairs and the sound of trampling feet. Vex threw me and my bags over his shoulder and jumped out of the window followed by Zev and Johnny. When did he have time to pack my bags?
He tossed me into the car and started it up while Johnny and Zev got in beside me. I heard a loud and pained roar.
“Take off Vex, he’s coming.” Zev yelled. We took off like a bullet, breaking about a thousand traffic rules. I started to turn around to see ‘Him’ when Vex spoke.
“Don’t turn around Anna.” Vex said looking at me with his bluish green eyes. Every time it’s always the same thing, I’m never allowed to see why I’m running, the reason for my problems.
“Why can’t I know? I never know anything. You’re too over protective. You know what Valerie said right before we ran off the first time?” I asked. I was talking about my best friend and Zev’s mate. “She told me we were running from a Majestic Alpha.” A Majestic Alpha is an extremely jealous, strong, overprotective and unpredictable werewolf. The only people who can calm them down are their mates and running from them is stupid as hell. They get pissed off beyond belief and keep chasing until they get what they want.
They looked at each other shocked and started to laugh nervously.
“No, no way. That’s not it at all.” Johnny said patting my head while running a hand through his blonde hair.
“Yeah sure...” I mumbled before falling asleep on Zev’s lap.
“Annabelle, were almost there, welcome home.” Vex said waking me up. I sat up rubbing my eyes and look around. Palm trees, tanned people, beaches… Were freaking home! Like the real thing!
“Vex! You brought us home! California” I screamed crying and wrapping my hands around his neck and ruffling up his brown hair.
“Told you she’d be happy…” Vex mumbled to my other brothers.
“Happy? I’m ecstatic!” I screamed jumping up and down in my seat. “Do we get to see everyone?” I asked serious.
“London, we do have to tell you something.” Johnny mumbled suddenly nervous.
“What is it?” I asked skeptical.
“Well, you remember Carl?” Zev asked. I nodded. He was a great alpha. He and his mate Shawnee were always so nice to me.
“Well a few days before we left the first time he told everyone he had a son and had him take over the position.” Vex said biting his lip. “His son, well, didn’t agree with us leaving, so he came after us. We cannot let them know that were in town.”
“Yeah, I know that. That dude sounds like a total dip wad.” I said frowning. “I hate him already.” I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get to see everyone though.
“No you don’t. We just wish you did.” Vex mumbled. I pretended not to hear him.
“So where are we staying?” I asked curious.
“Beedle heights…” Johnny said.
“That’s like so off the grid!” I screamed smiling. “We’ll totally blend in. Do I get to go to school?” I asked. My three brothers are 19, so they don’t go to school anymore. I told them they should go to college but they didn’t listen. We always had to run.
“Maybe. If we can have some of our friends escort you to class.” Vex said smiling a little. The thing about my brothers is that they have ‘friends’ everywhere. And most of the time they’re extremely buff and cranky men.
“Are they like your friends in Ohio? Or Texas? Or Alaska?” I asked narrowing my eyes.
“They’re nicer. I promise.” He replied holding a hand over his heart. I smiled. When Vex, Johnny or Zev promise me something it’s always true.
