Boris narrowed his gold eyes. "R- Replacement?" He sounded so exhausted. "Alex are you even hearing what you're saying right now?"

I nodded, "Of course I'm hearing it." I muttered the last part, referring to Alice's side of the story. "I've heard all of it." For a dumb cat who loves riddles, he really failed to see the meaning behind what I said.

"All of what?"

I took a deep breath.

"Boris.... Boris, I've been in this stupid place for a roughly a week. In that week we've seen eachother on four occasions. Hell, on one of those occasions, you even attempted to make out with me." As expected, he grinned at the last part.

"But all of it," I added, "Is a lie. Complete and utter bullshit."

Now, Boris was even more confused. He blinked, twice. "I don't- I still don't follow." His ears twitched. "You aren't me. You don't know what I feel."

"I know about what you felt for Alice." To this, his breath hitched. "You love her. God, Boris, you love her so much. Remember how frustrated you were when she wasn't the one Peter dragged back? Remember how bitter you were towards me?" He refused to keep eye contact with me; he even sat down to make sure we weren't at eye level. My voice got quieter as I said, "Remember how broken you were when even though you knew she loved you, she chose Blood instead?"

His head snapped up, his pupils narrowed into that signature cat slit. "Don't." He hissed fiercely, voice naturally lowering itself into an intimidating tone. The damn cat stood up at last. "Don't ever bring that up."

"I love Alice." Boris confirmed, voice strong but weak at the same time. "I love her more than he ever will!"

I didn't know about whether or not that was true, honestly.

"And yet," I made sure my voice was stronger, sterner than his. My point was far stronger than his, and I needed Boris to realise that. It was why I was looking him in the eye, why I tried not to focus on the fact that he could easily shoot me if he pleased. "A year after she leaves, you try getting it on with her younger brother."

Boris was silent.

But I could see the anger radiating off him.

He grabbed the closest item to him - a glass cup - and threw it against the wall.

His voice raised in volume.

"THAT'S- That's-"

"That's what?" I yelled back, just as loud. "The truth! Fucking hell Boris, you haven't even known me longer than a week! But you're already trying to have at it with me-" I hurried on, refusing to allow him to speak. "-We met and you hated me, and then what, three meetings later you're suddenly head-over-tail in love with me? That's a load of bullshit, Boris. You don't love me, hell you're not even infatuated with me, you're just wishing I was Alice."

.... Boris was pissed.

Eyebrows furrowed, arms flailing with every syllable of every word, eyes getting intenser with every sentence. Now we were just screaming at eachother, hoping the other was too unequipped with their words to say something back. We were fighting. Both physically and verbally- I may have punched him first.

"I LOVE HER." Boris yells as he grabs me by the shoulders and pushes me against the wall. I wince as my injured arm slams into the hard surface (and Boris, the asshole, shows no remorse what so ever). "I love her." He repeats, panting. "But that doesn't mean-" He swallowed the saliva in his throat and rests his forehead against mine. "-That doesn't mean I can't love you too, does it?"

I place my hands on his torso and attempt to push him away, but I can't. Boris stands there, still.

I don't remove my hands from his firm chest.

"That's exactly what it means." I mumble meekly. This time it's me who can't keep eye contact.

"But why?" He whispers back, and the sadness in his voice is dripping onto my skin, splashing onto the floor and drowning me. I grip onto his shirt as I search for the right words.

"She loves you."

"She chose him."

"But she does love you." I reminded him. "And if she ever comes back here, I want to make sure she still has the biggest place in your heart, just like you do in hers."

"Besides," I add. "You've not even known me for a week."

"Then let me get to know you."

His exhale is warm against my lips, and his palms which were pressed flatly against the wall are now cupping my face; Boris has his fingers intertwined with my hair. "Alex." I bit my lip. I can't look up, I can't. I've just been preaching about how this shouldn't happen, how it didn't make sense, but there Boris was, trying to coax me into what could be.

"Alex."

My gaze is still glued to the floor.

"Alex please." Boris sounds so desperate.

I glance up, but neither of us speak. I watch his eyes, how they move to see every part of my face. I feel the way Boris' forehead and nose shift slightly to the side, how his thumb is gliding against the side of my cheek, how my arms managed to wrap themselves around him at some point. I don't break eye contact with Boris when he moves his lips to meet mine.

"Hey Boris, did you find- oh."

Both our heads snap to the door, where Gowland stands awkwardly. No body moves; we're all frozen still. "I- I'll come back another time."

"Don't come back at all." Boris frowns. I release my hold on Boris and duck under his arms to break free. "Actually, I, uh, I was just about to get going."

"No you weren't." Both Gowland and Boris say.

I roll my eyes. "I'm leaving either way. I- I'll see you around, I guess, Boris."

I walked out of the room with my most stoic expression, but after that, I ran home back to the clock tower.
