"We'd better head back," I said after awhile blushing as we stepped apart, "Besides, you know the rules: always keep running." I tried imitating Minho's stern face and dominant attitude but failed pretty miserably. I'm such an awkward person, oops.

Newt and I were just a couple inches from each other. I watched him carefully as he stood looking confused. Eventually we made eye contact and he began laughing. His eyes crinkled as he laughed and said, "I don't even know what that impression was but yes let's head back. Day one of your training is complete." He had a look of admiration on his face.

We stopped talking for a second and I felt how close we were. I looked away from his eyes and said with a sigh, "Look Newt, I've got to tell you something important about--"

The earth began to rumble. The walls were moving. "What's going on?!" I shouted.

Newt's expression had changed from confusion to pure fear. "Something isn't right! We still have an hour or two before the walls close." As he spoke, his eyes searched the changing terrain wildly.

"We need to go!" I shouted grabbing my pack and beginning to run. Newt followed and the two of us sprinted towards the entrance of the maze. The maze was moving and changing.

Stones and vines fell from the tops of the walls. Newt and I were close to the entrance when a huge stone fell directly above me. I closed my eyes tightly and waited for the painful impact but if never came. Instead I felt Newt's hands grabbing my shoulders and shoving me out of the way. We fell basically on top of each other but luckily were not too injured. I was startled by this near death experience but Newt looked unfazed.

He jumped up and grabbed my hand. We continued running to the opening; Newt in front of me tugging my hand. I couldn't see any of the other runners as we approached the Glade. The Gladers were standing at the entrance shouting and screaming as the walls began closing slowly.

This was impossible! The walls weren't supposed to close yet, it's too soon. The sun is still high in the sky. There's more time, this makes no sense.

We approached the entrance just in time. Newt pulled me through the doors and we collapsed onto the safe grass of the Glade.

My heart was beating so fast I couldn't hear anything. The boys questions and shouts were muffled by my beating heart. I was breathing heavily and my vision was blurred. I looked up to see a million faces of concern and fear. Everything was spinning and fuzzy. One thing I was aware of: Newt's hand interlocked with mine in a tight grip.
