[PG] Parental Guidance Suggested
The wind howled around me as the endless grey sky stretched out before me. There was nothing above me. There seemed to be nothing beneath me, with the sole exception of what I was standing on. My hair blew out behind me, curling around my face in thick tendrils. There was no sound, no indication of human presence. I could have been the only person in the world. I could have escaped from them all.
I stretched, as tall as I could go, my hands reaching towards heaven. The sky seemed so close, almost as if you could reach out and caress a cloud, yet my hands felt nothing but cool air. Heaven was always just out of reach. I closed my eyes and let everything go from my mind. It all fell away. My toes curled, and I leaned forwards, headfirst, falling into nothing but air. The fall was...exhilarating. The wind rushed past me. I felt weightless. I felt like I was flying. It was as if I'd left my body behind, and it was staring down at my spirit from the top of the cliff. My hands broke through the water first, the icy chill immediately sweeping through me. My head went underwater, and it seemed almost easier to breathe. Beneath the water, everything was calm, quiet, and mysterious. No one can tell if you're crying. No one can see you at all. You can leave everyone behind as you swim. I came up for a fleeting breath of air. As I gasped, I looked up to where I started. The cliff's top. It seemed so far away now, just like the rest of the world. I dove back down beneath the water, back to my world, back to my moment, where the past could not touch me.
